Publisher's Summary

Joe Gunther is sent to the neighboring town of Bellows Falls to investigate harassment allegations against a fellow officer. But as Gunther doggedly pursues the truth, what begins as a seemingly open-and-shut case starts to look more and more like a frame job, and he soon finds himself feeling around the edges of a statewide drug distribution network.

As always, Vermont itself is a major character in Mayor's writing, with Bellows Falls standing in for any number of slowly decaying, once-proud mill towns.

Police procedural series set in Vermont

There are 28 novels in the Joe Gunther Mysteries series by Archer Mayor. Bellows Falls, #8, is the best of the three I have listened to. It comes very close to achieving a five star rating. It is an excellent suspense mystery.

Joe Gunther is the man

Joe always finds trouble no matter where he goes. Always ends up staying a night or so in the hospital. He always gets the bad guy no matter how much trouble he has to go through, if all police were like Joe we would live in a much better world.

Not his strongest

I usually love his books, but this one was not his best. No mystery what so ever.

Takes the Lords name in vain.

and drops f bombs, couldn’t listen any more.
It actually was moving really slow, and I have insomnia, it will put you to sleep, but could not get past the language.

Solid police procedural!

Yet again Archer Mayor does not disappoint neither does Tom Taylerson, another solid Vermont police procedural with great knowledge of the area and surroundings and the legal framework for the police !
The narration makes it feel as if Joe Gunther’s talking to you relating his latest case.

pleasant but not thrilling

it was a nice read but I never quite felt spell bound to read the next chapter and never stayed up all night wanting to finish the book. It just kind of went along and I read it but it was pleasantly entertaining.

Not the best

Think Joe Gunther is starting to think he’s a superhero. Still enjoyable enough to pass a few hours. The most abrupt end to date and author still telling us about the book at the beginning! Note to authors, if you want to add explanations please do it at the end!
