At the time of publication, the lives of presidents and their families were private and not known to the public - this book gave everyone an idea of what it was like inside the White House.

Intimate

This book was mentioned in a couple others books and I'm glad it's an Audible. What an ambitious, loyal and intelligent person. To have been so close to the Lincolns and the Davis families and then stay so close to Mrs Lincoln after Abe's assassination is remarkable. She has literally written important history like no one else could.
