Publisher's Summary

In a city of sin broods an alpha tired of his past.

Criminal defense attorney Marcus Hayes’ bedroom is empty, but he can’t bring himself to fill it. Years of casual encounters and heated play sessions with seasoned submissives have left him numb - and the older he gets, the more the lifestyle loses its allure. The change he knows he needs isn’t easy to come by.

But change is closer than he thinks.

Beneath blinding strobe lights toils an omega eager for a better future.

Lucian Bracknell is finally free from the horrors of the White Lotus brothel, and for the first time in his life, he’s on his own. Independence means discovering who he is and redefining his relationship with the world, but when he lands a bartending job at the Shepherd, that world turns upside down. Behind the Shepherd’s bar counter, Lucian is untouchable, and "no" is a drug he can’t get enough of.

Until his eyes lock with those of an alpha he’s not allowed to have, and those firm "no’s" turn to whimpered "yes’s".

But forbidden desire this hot can’t be contained forever, and when the fires of their lust start to scorch, Marcus and Lucian will either have to succumb to the heat and face the consequences together, or burn with it until one of them falls on their knees and begs for relief.

An engaging audio

Scott once again has gripped me into another tale. Beg was thoroughly engaging and deeply engrossing. Pauley’s narration gives a lovely enhancement to bring dimension to this book. The characters are written with deep facets that add to the story. The underlying tension that only Pauley can bring sends shivers down my spine. Definitely worth a listen.

What belongs to me will never beg. - Marcus Hayes

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

Story comment: good pace, interesting characters and an entertaining story... I just wish it were longer, it's characters and their story needed further developing.
I like the way this series challenges my idea's of the Dom/Sub relationship.

I enjoyed Michael Dean's narration. I had no problem distinguishing characters, felt the emotion and chemistry between the characters and he bought the book to life.

Reclaiming Yourself

I really love how Lucian is able to reclaim for himself what was taken from him. I also love Marcus' integrity. I like to hope he would have turned down the case no matter what. There were a few missteps in communication as each man feels the other one and themselves out. It was a wonderful feeling to see them work together to move forward.

I listened to audio version and it was very well done.

Beg... A demanding read

The second in series lives its own life from start to finish. I'm never one to reveil the story, but there is stream and interest from the moment these two meet. Both giving and able to give what the other needs. Characters that aren't shallow or missing bits that leave them unbelievable. Piper Scott does it again, and I love listening to Micheal Dean as he reads. He breathes life into characters.

growth and more

The games Lucian and Marcus played in the beginning were humorous and hot and added to my enjoyment level. I liked the snippets of updates on Crawford and watching him change and grow too with fatherhood. Adrian made me furious with his pushy nature and blackmail attempts!! Grr... I liked the growth in Marcus and was glad he found his missing piece in Lucian. Looking forward to more. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

what a turn around

When we meet Lucien in book one he is one heck of a flirt. He doesn't lose that completely in this book but we see how he takes what he learns at the treatment centre and fights the pull his omega instincts naturally want. Seeing Marcus understanding this and helping to make it both something Lucien wants and needs.

Great narration!

4 Stars!

Beg is book 2 in the His Command series by Piper Scott and it can technically be read as a standalone, however, the couple from book 1 features in this one and I really liked their story, so I suggest reading them in order.

While I liked Marcus and my heart broke for all Lucien had to go through, I wasn't completely engrossed in their story. Yes, they were hot together, but it felt a bit, I don't know, forced maybe? At least at first. It got better and by the epilogue, I even shed a few tears at how much Marcus and Lucien had grown as a couple.

Unfortunately, and this is more my issue than anything else, there were some plot points that were left unresolved or weren't really addressed in the end and that left me unsatisfied. First and foremost, the whole Adrian thing, really, I would've hoped for him to get his just desserts after how he treated Lucien. And then, the thing with the human trafficking case, which was just glossed over, why mention it if you're not doing anything with it?

Michael Pauley did an amazing job with the narration, though. His voice is very pleasant and while in some of his earlier works, it felt like he got a bit hyper, he's learned to modulate his tone and deliver a solid performance.

While not my favorite book, if possible grab the audio, Michael Pauley truly made the experience a whole lot better than just reading the story would have.

Lucien finds a Master

Michael Pauley is one of my Top 5 favourite authors as he does such an awesome job of giving each character a distinct voice that matches their personalities.
I've been enjoying the audio releases of this series by the very talented Piper Scott as I read the e-books quite a while ago, so it was wonderful to rediscover them in audio with the quirks and humour well matched in Michael's performance skills.
We meet Lucien Bracknell briefly in Obey (the first book in the series) and it's good to see how he's come on since then in getting his life back together, even landing himself a job as a bartender at an exclusive Club.
Marcus Hayes, a successful lawyer and a true Dom, see something in the Shepherd's newest employee that piques his interest. Can he tempt Lucien into breaking the rules? and if he does, will the two manage to find their happily ever after?
Highly recommended Alpha/Omega Dom/Sub story.

Plot issues

I really wanted to love this one but it just fell short for me and I had several plot point issues, that I just didn't feel worked for me. Several times problems came up and then they were like we need to work this out, oh ok well lets work it out in bed instead and bam it was all better. I did really like the characters but and I felt their connection. But a few parts could have been handled better, instead of making my eyes roll

Great story with intriguing characters

A really good second book in the His Command series. We briefly met Lucian and Marcus in book one and they get their own story told now. It's wonderful to read how well Lucian is doing considering his history and how he's taking control of his future. Marcus throws that a little into disarray considering the type of relationship he would like to have.
Piper Scott has written a beautiful story full of dominance and submission with a bit of danger involved considering their relationship is forbidden within The Shepherd - Lucian's workplace and Marcus is a member. We get to hear occasionally from the MC's in book one and have a little more interaction with people from the Shepherd, Clarissa is the Bar Manager and Adrian a regular visitor. Their relationship develops throughout the book with a lot of heat and unexpected feelings for both men considering how they both lived their lives previously. It all progresses at a steady pace, nothing feels rushed.
Michael has done a fantastic job bringing to life all of the emotion that both men feel throughout this story. Whilst they are from different backgrounds and have vastly different experiences, I could feel the connection between them from the way the narration came across, full of feelings, tension and hesitations.
A must for fans of the d/s dynamic and those who enjoyed book one. A recommendation from me and I love everything from this great author.

Great listen

I really enjoyed this story and how Michael tells it. The characters were engaging with Lucien’s vulnerability as he is recovering his sense of worth, Marcus’ jadedness as to how his life is going and how together they find a spark for the future. This is the second book in the series and falls on after Obey.
Worth listening to.

Captivating

In Beg we learn how Lucian is rebuilding his life and learning about himself. Michael Pauley perfectly portrays Lucian’s determination and bravado. I found Lucian to be endearing. Marcus is a wonderfully strong Alpha. There is a wonderful tension between them which is enhanced by Michael Pauley’s characterisation of them. The way Marcus cares for Lucian in his submission is beautiful. Whilst this book stands alone I personally would recommend listening to the previous book, Obey.
I was given a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Great narrator, good story

I really love this narrator. I had a great sense of who the characters were throughout the story and I really enjoyed his performance - particularly of Lucien. The story is good. It moves on from the first book and focuses on Lucien, one of the omegas rescued from the White Lotus brothel. I enjoyed how determined he was to reclaim his life, and how sensitive Marcus was to him even before he found out about his past. The angst is fairly minimal given the potentially traumatic subject matter and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing? Overall, if you like an omegaverse story then this is definitely a good one!

Love won't make you Beg

I really enjoyed this second Piper Scott book Beg, it's just as good as the first in the series, Obey.
Lucien, an omega, rebuilding his life after abuse, takes a job bartending in a BDSM club meets a bored, disillusioned Alpha named Marcus.
Piper Scott has a way of writing a sweet, gentle love story with hot sex and mild to moderate BDSM scenes, mixed in with knots and M/preg.
What more could you ask for?
