Publisher's Summary

Bennett’s firm hand is everything I need...except maybe Archer’s gentle touch.

Jude

I’m in a downward spiral...see what I did there? When the band manager, Archer, hires Bennett to keep me from screwing up while the band is on hiatus, I may have finally met someone who won’t take my attitude lying down. With the three of us cooped up together for weeks on end, I have a feeling things might get interesting.

Archer

Downward Spiral is my baby. But it’s obvious I haven’t done a great job because they’re falling apart. There’s only one man I can think of who might be able to get Jude back on the right track: Bennett. Unfortunately, he’s also the man I let get away 16 years ago and haven’t gotten over since.

Bennett

Control is kind of my thing. Which is probably why I’m the best in the business when it comes to getting out-of-control celebrities back on track. When my ex calls and tells me he’s desperate for my help, I can’t turn him down. Between the infuriatingly sexy drummer with no idea what kind of trouble he’s asking for, and my ex looking better than ever, there’s no way this isn’t about to get messy.

Awesome narration!

I’m a fan of the Replay series and I’ve been wanting to read this story since I listened to the first book. I love a well written polyamorous book, the navigation of a poly-relationship fascinates me. But I’m also picky about the kind of poly relationship I enjoy reading about. I need the participants to be equals in that relationship, equally important, equally loved, all being seen, no one left out. So I just had to know how Jude, Archer and Bennett would make it all work.

On the one hand I really liked this story – at least on the surface. I enjoyed how Bennett “handled” Jude, that he got him and what he needed. That Bennett and Archer finally was together again. How they all worked together as a whole, completing each other. That they all had their place and part in the relationship.

But looking more deeply there are quite a few things that are lacking for me. It all felt a bit too easy to believable, but that’s also something I can easily live with. What I had a harder time with was that I felt like Jude’s drug addiction was more of a plot device rather than part of who he was. In the beginning of the book Jude was tripping, desperate for one more hit, nose bleeding, not caring about anyone or anything – least of all himself. In short he was a mess. Then, enter Bennett and addiction and craving was magically gone, barely any mention what so ever – only to reappear to cause some minor drama in the end of the book.

And for those of you that like a little kink in your reads, this book will surely make you happy. It’s much dirtier than the others, and not only because of the D/S relationship between Ben and Jude, or the daddy kink, but also the amount of hot and heavy sex scenes. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but I know that it will speak to many readers with much dirtier hearts than mine ;)

That’s also another thing that didn’t quite work for me. I felt like the relationship, the feelings between the three men were shoved aside for sex. More than once they said they would talk about how their relationship would work, the next step. They made such a big deal about honesty and sharing their thoughts etc, but the next minute they were in the living room fucking. Not really the productive kind of talk I was looking for. For me it made their relationship lack depth.

My favourite part of this book might just be Kenneth Obi’s narration (Colour me shocked). He narrated the hell out of this book. He captured all three of our main characters perfectly, the gruff and bossy Bennett, the gentler, but still controlling Archer and the out of control Jude. They have all distinct voices and Obi clearly shows that. Jude’s playfulness and insecurities comes out clearly. I loved the accent for Archer. I also loved the feelings Obi added to the situations, he made you feel – in a good way and I would gladly have listened to him for many more hours.

A copy of this book was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review for Love Bytes.

Mmm... I love 3 guys together!

See what I did there? LOL I love this series so hard and this book in particular because Jude just is so sweet in his submission. Besides, I have serious Daddy kink and this just pushes all my buttons. Mr. Obi, well done and I loved hearing you sing!!

4.5 stars! Kenneth shows a new side

I loved this story when I first read it and hearing it brought to life was great. There was one part that I absolutely loved and was excited to hear included. Kenneth actually sings as Linc and I kept rewinding to listen to it. Now I need the rest. great job!

Three is Best

I love the arch of this story. Archer cares for all the members of the band but has concerns especially for Jude and his destructive behavior. He is willing to bring back his past. I also appreciate how Bennett is willing to put his feeling out there. I also like how Jude’s needs are always taken into consideration. These three blend so well together. It is a very strong story on it’s own and blended into the series as well.
I listened to the audio version and it was very enjoyable.

A Dom, A Daddy and a Brat

What could go wrong or right?? right

This is only a little bit kinky but it is really beautiful to see two who love each other being able to find their way back to each other and the growth and healing of their boy. This is a beautiful example of how good a poly relationship can be.

Love Soothes The Pain

Beat of Their Own Drum is the third book in the Replay series, and it deals with some heavy issues. Jude has been a troubled character since the beginning of the series, and we finally find out where his pain is stemming from. Jude’s journey is painful, but the love and strength he gets from Archer and Bennett was beautiful. Even though there is a lot of angst, the author balances it out with the romance between all three men. I really liked how the kink was incorporated into the story and how it really completed the relationship between all the men. This book was wonderful – from the storyline to the character growth to the steamy, kinky moments. I loved it all.

3.5 stars

This was a decent read - better than 3 stars, but not 4 stars. It didn’t grab me by the heart as much as it could have done, but it was a nice story.

Three is a magic number

One dom and one daddy. They love each other but their dynamics doesn’t work. Especially not in bed. Just add a spoiled, bratty drugusing rockstar to the mix.

No it isn’t simple, it is complecated! But it works! For the characters and the story.

And Kenneth brings them to life!

Just didn't do it for me

I really wanted to love this one and I was so excited to get to their story but I just didn't love it. The progression of their relationship just didn't feel organic to me and the pieces didnt fit together. 1 & 1 & 1 just didn't make 3. I saw the connections between each of the characters as individual pairs but bringing them all together just didnt feel the same. I think a large part of this was the extreme imbalance between them all.

On the flip side of that this is my favorite book Kenneth has narrated his NY accent was fantastic!! He did a great job with everyone and it was one of his best by far

Great story

This story ticked all my boxes, even if I don't understand a threesome. And at one point I was confused about the large number of kinks Jude engages in, within a week of meeting Bennet. There was no mention of love, trust, admiration, longing, consequences or future. Just 'let's be a threesome'.

What annoys me in this great narration is the point where two words are corrected with a second recording, and you can totally tell. The few places where a soft sound in the studio is recorded, are not so bad. At another point there are words missing and you hear a stretch of silence.

Bennett, Archer and Jude fit

This was done wonderfully with background info on Archer and Bennett's relationship and a missing piece that they just had to wait for. Really loved their coming together
