As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

Story
On the day Concord Webster turned eighteen, the Devil died. The Devil's real name was Judge Martin, but Concord's mother called him the Devil. She said he boiled babies for dinner and made lampshades out of human skin. So why did she, who hated him so venomously, have a key to his house? The key will unlock more than just Judge's front door. It will also unlock a multitude of stories - where magic children talk to crows, men disappear in piles of leaves, and James Dean lookalikes kiss in dark alleys - and reveal a secret history that will change Concord's life forever.Â

Story
Mary Gauthier was 12 years old when she was given her Aunt Jenny’s old guitar and taught herself to play with a Mel Bay basic guitar workbook. Music offered her a window to a world where others felt the way she did. Songs became lifelines to her, and she longed to write her own, one day. Then, for a decade, while struggling with addiction, Gauthier put her dream away and her call to songwriting faded. It wasn’t until she got sober and went to an open mic with a friend did she realize that she not only still wanted to write songs, she needed to.

From navigating the oft competing worlds of religion and desire, to balancing society’s expectations with the raw experience of being a woman in the world; from detailing the experiences of growing up as a first generation black British woman, to working through situations of dependence and abuse; from finding solace in the echoing caverns of depression and loss, to exploring the vulnerability and redemption in falling in love, each of the raw and immediate poems in Daley-Ward’s bone resonates to the core of what it means to be human. Â

A brilliant and moving novel about celebrity, sexual power, and a daughter’s search to understand her mother’s hidden truths. Bringing to life two generations of women with difficult sexual histories, both assaulted and silenced, both finding - or failing to find - their powers of recovery, Actress touches a raw and timely nerve. With virtuosic storytelling and in prose at turns lyrical and knife-sharp, Enright takes readers to the heart of the maddening yet tender love that binds a mother and daughter.

A chance encounter at a summer party on Martha’s Vineyard blossomed into an improbable but enduring friendship. Carly Simon and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made an unlikely pair - Carly, a free and artistic spirit still reeling from her recent divorce, searching for meaning, new love, and an anchor; and Jackie, one of the most celebrated, meticulous, unknowable women in American history. Publisher's Summary
Winner of the Irish Book Awards’ Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year.
Andrea Corr’s Barefoot Pilgrimage is a compelling and honest memoir.
In part, an exercise in coming to terms with and making sense of life and mortality following the loss of a beloved father; in part, a reflection on an unlikely journey with her siblings through the music industry; in part, a meditation on family, on music and on creativity; and, in part, a shout-out for love and for hope.
This is a very personal - at times very funny, at times deeply moving - book from an iconic figure in popular music.
Critic Reviews
One of Joseph O’Connor’s books of the year: "the work of a writer with a real feeling for language and the nuances of a story." (Sunday Independent)
"A singular voice that tells a tale both frighteningly honest and funny." (Liam Collins, Sunday Independent)
"A book that I really, really enjoyed – and that I was surprised by. It’s quite a literary memoir...an exercise in coming to terms with and making sense of life and mortality following the loss of her beloved father...a reflection on a journey with her siblings that most of us can’t even imagine through the music industry. It’s also musings and meditations on family, creativity and music. There’s a lot of love in it, and a lot of hope. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. [Corr has] a really unique voice." (RóisÃn Ingle, Irish Times Women’s Podcast)

A wonderful story told in a wonderful way.
I have all 3 versions of Barefoot Pilgrimage - hardcover, Kindle, and Audible, and Audible is my favorite! I love hearing the story told by Andrea in her own voice. it makes it come alive and more intimate, as if she's talking just to you. I love the stream of consciousness style it has, which makes the audible version the best fit. Although I'm familiar with a fair bit of what she writes about, hearing the sadness and loss of a brother she never got to know, five miscarriages and nearly dying in childbirth, makes you want to reach out, hug her, and tell her she is loved. She knows that, and that she is very blessed in many ways. The warmth, kindness, and compassion she possesses shine through brightly in hearing her tell her tale. thank you for sharing your story with us, Andrea!

Like nothing I have ever read
As a huge fan of the Corrs music, getting this book was a must. I then saw Andrea did a audio book version which was also intriguing. I wanted to read the book but I also wanted to hear the story from her. I tried something new to me and combined the two. The words jumped off the paper and came to life. Andrea made me laugh...she even made me cry. What a story of love. I always loved the music but now as I just finished the book am in awe of the person she is. So glad she did this. And the proudest I have ever been as a fan.

I've been a fan of The Corrs since 1996 and after listening to this, 26 years later (and quite well performed by Andrea, I might add), there are still many surprises! Very poetic with her words! The only trouble I had was working out which timeline I was in, with some parts.

Story

Story
A chance encounter at a summer party on Martha’s Vineyard blossomed into an improbable but enduring friendship. Carly Simon and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made an unlikely pair - Carly, a free and artistic spirit still reeling from her recent divorce, searching for meaning, new love, and an anchor; and Jackie, one of the most celebrated, meticulous, unknowable women in American history. Nonetheless, over the next decade their lives merged in inextricable and complex ways, and they forged a connection deeper than either could ever have foreseen.

Story
Utopia Avenue is the strangest British band you’ve never heard of. Emerging from London’s psychedelic scene in 1967, Utopia Avenue released only two LPs during its brief, blazing journey from the clubs of Soho and drafty ballrooms to Top of the Pops and the cusp of chart success, and on to glory in Amsterdam, prison in Rome, and a fateful American fortnight in the autumn of 1968.
