action, adventure and mystery

This mystery series is really growing on me and now I need to have the rest in the series. I had to grin at the college football fever represented here in this book. Having lived in Oklahoma for four years, that football fervor is well known to me. Men and women in the south-east seem to live and breathe it. I had to laugh at the sacrilege when my husband wore my UC Berkeley jacket over his Sooners shirt. Becker does an excellent job portraying the recruitment process and weaving the murder mystery into it. For once the mystery doesn't start with Hunter finding a dead body. He tries to help a young woman who ends up on the remote island where he where he and his neighbors live. The description of "Stiltsville" really caught my imagination. I've always thought that sounded like a cool way to live: In a house built on/over water. I imagine the fishing would be amazing. I'm sure the real thing would involve a lot of mosquitoes, humidity and a lack of air conditioning., but I can dream :) Hunter and his forensic girlfriend work together to navigate their work and personal life. His interactions with his boss Martinez take a delicate touch and it was nice to see that Susan had to finally pay for her on the job snafu's. It was also nice seeing a man torn between career and his child as that sentimentality is not always represented as much as it should be. Paul J. McSorley did an excellent job at narrating. His voice picks up during action scenes and always accurately reflects what's going on. His voice and narration style is the perfect fit for Becker's outdoor series set on Florida's waterways. McSorley and Becker are a great combination and I hope they collaborate for years to come. I highly recommend the Kurt Hunter series to anyone who looking for a good mystery and/or action adventure.

Great job all around!

The things Kurt Hunter has to go through to complete his job are mind boggling to me. The hoops he jumps through for his boss, and the people he has to put up with makes for a hard day for Kurt. But, nonetheless he does it and gets the job done. Steven Becker has put together another great story in this series and I’m excited to see where else it goes from here. Paul McSorley does a wonderful job in giving life to the character with his voice which I enjoyed hearing throughout the story. Great job to both men!

Another amazing one

I'm absolutely in love with this series. Steven Becker gives great information while not making it awkward in the text. I have learned a lot about boats! And of course his story line kept me listening and never wanting to put it down! It's exciting to see the characters grow. And of course Paul's voice I can't get enough of!

Another wonderful thrilling exciting listen

The author gives another wonderful twist that keeps you on the edge from one surprise to another. If you have read any of this series you know where Kurt Hunter is bodies soon turn up. Here we are bought into sport and what people are willing to do to get the best players but something goes wrong when a woman turns up dead and another is found bloody. The mystery comes to life when the bloody woman does everything she can to make your eyebrows go up. She doesn’t act like a true victim and you are left wondering what her game is. The hunt is on for the body that has come up missing along with wild parties on boats and wild woman who will do anything to make these players happy. Are they there willing or is there more to the story. Mr. Becker does a great job pulling you in taking you a way in a wonderful adventure that the author gives. He has a pleasant normal voice as well as character voices as his character, he gives wonderful emotion that pulls you in making you feel like you are part of the story. His character voices both male and female are great. I always knew who is talking and what they are feeling. He really bought this story life for me, giving the danger just enough power to make my heart beat faster pulling in with the excitement, danger and the unknown as well as the chase. He gives enough pauses to let it sink in and really feel what the characters are feeling. There were no background noises, no volume changes and if any breaks were taken I could not tell. The audio is very clean and clear giving you hours of enjoyment that holds your attention why keeping you guessing and on the edge. I am really looking forward to listening to more of his work. The author gives you a highly entertaining listen that really pulls you in with excitement and danger along with a few thrills. He keeps you on the edge keeping you guessing to the outcome. I really liked how the author lays it out with the mystery pulling the listener in giving a deal tailed exciting story. I love how it all comes together. He gives you wonderful characters, a thrilling story that is believable. I have truly enjoyed everyone of this series I have listened to and can’t wait to listen to more.

And the books just keep getting better!

This series is really good. The character development over the 3 books of Kurt Hunter has been exemplary. Beyond the character development is the relationship development between Kurt and his girlfriend, Justine. She is a hoot and keeps Kurt on his toes. In book 3, Kurt doesn't find a body or witness a murder, but, instead finds a woman washed up on his small space of an 'island'. He takes her in and everything goes awry. Murder, intrigue, mayhem all wrapped up in one fantastic story. Paul McSorley is a very talented narrator. I love listening to his work. He has a breathiness in his cadence that tends to create a 'way' like an accent does. He is perfect for the Kurt Hunter series. I can honestly say I am getting to know this man by his voice and I like him. Looking for book 4!

Party boats are not fun

This book was about a group of football players who were being approached by college recruiters and the special trip ends up with tragic consequences. The wildlife agent is tasked with solving the murder mystery since it was involving water and the Miami islands that make up a National Park. He uses his experience and instincts with help from his girlfriend to solve the case. The narration was fine with clear voice and emphasis. This book was provided free of charge in expectation of an honest review.

This series gets better and better

I loved the third Kurt Hunter mystery. The underlying story with his girlfriend and his boss continue to develop and this particular murder case is very interesting. As always, the narration is superb.

Awesome Story, Awesome Narration!

Steven Becker and Paul J McSorley are a wonderful combination of writer and narrator. Backwater Cove is the third book in the series and a standalone listen. Kurt Hunter is a special agent with the park service, a father of a teenage daughter, and a lover to forensic specialist Justine. He always seems to be in trouble with his boss Martinez, is told to play nice with Detective Grace, thinks outside the box, and has a panache for finding dead bodies. This book has mystery, suspense, humor, and a great ending. Without giving away spoilers, I found this book to be the most gripping of the series. I love the imagery that is described. The narration is perfect. I like how the characters have distinguishable voices, and the emotions fit the scene. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.
