Publisher's Summary

The last thing Smokey should let himself want is this man, but he can’t seem to stay away....

Every time Smokey stares at the President patch on his cut, he feels like an imposter. After all, that was not the life he was supposed to lead. In his former club, he did what they asked, when they asked, and that was enough for him. But 30 years later and the fate of the Broken Chains resting on his shoulders, all eyes were on him.

Smokey had enough to deal with after the VP of Satan’s Souls got carted off to prison on his watch, but now there’s a dead man in an alley with a cut bearing the name of The Cobras. And Smokey knows they’re not prepared to handle the consequences if the Cobras’ President thinks they’re responsible.

However, the dead man isn’t the worst part: The only witness is a civilian.

Eliah Burns was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it seems like fate really has it in for Smokey, because Eliah is also the one man he’s been avoiding. Eliah has been in Smokey’s periphery for years, his little brother’s favorite professor - and he’s also the one-night stand Smokey hasn’t been able to forget.

Now Eliah’s in Smokey’s home, hiding from the men who want him dead, and Smokey’s trying to keep his heart from tripping and falling for a man he shouldn’t want, while learning who is trying to set his club up to start a full on war.

Broken Chains MC is a Motorcycle Club Romance series with dubious morality, mild violence, and happily ever afters.

Smokey♥️Eliah

I loved listening to Smokey and Eliah's story.

They were sweet together and the chemistry between them was intense and palpable.

The storyline was fairly interesting and drew me in from the very beginning.

The character development was good and the plot was well executed.

The narrator did a good audio delivery and narration

Narration needs help

So haven't read the first and I would recommend going in order with this one but I followed along ok with the story itself. It was good with a bit of suspense in there. The narration however is hard to get past. I did stick with it and you sort of get used to it after a while but it didn't make this an easy listen might have been better off with the E-Book. .

Smokey and Eliah

Smokey took on the role of protector not just for his family, but for his MC brothers as well. Eliah shouldn't have been part of that life at all, but through an unlucky twist of fate he ended up attracting the wrong kind of attention and needing Smokey's protection more than anyone. We see the characters struggle internally as well as with their feelings for each other. Looking forward to the next book. I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review.

Smokey and Eliah

I enjoyed this story a little bit more than the first one. I loved how opposite Smokey and Eliah were. Not just with what they did for a living but also with their personalities. There’s a decent amount of action throughout the story which keep me intrigued and interested in what would happen next. I didn’t quite like how Smokey and Eliah kept pushing each other apart, but it makes for a good story.

Logan Anare did a really good job. Changing voices for each character and even giving accents to those that have them.

Smokey and Eliah - what a ride!!

Solid narration!  i enjoyed the narrators voices for each of our MC's and he really brought the book to life for me!

I loved the connection that keeps drawing them into each other’s worlds.  These guys are wonderfully suited to each other and their journey is a bit twisty and bumpy.  They really have a beautiful and emotionally powerful romance.  The writing is good and the pacing kept me listening and enjoying it.

There is suspense, action, intimacy and connection that will keep you engaged with this story-line.  Really loved both characters!

This is book two of the  Broken Chains MC series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, but I would recommend for full enjoyment reading or listening to book one first.

Torn

I’m not sure where I land on this book. Let’s start with what I didn’t like.

I wasn’t a fan of the narrator. It wasn’t the sound of his voice as much as I got lost with which character was speaking. I’d say there are two distinct voices but no more. And their are a lot of characters so I was lost, a lot.

I did like the story. I’m an fan of this author and always love her storytelling but the narrator just made it to hard to follow along. If I was just reading the book it would be 5 stars.

Fantastic

I’m loving this series. Smokey is a MC President with a kind heart. Elijah is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Listening to this story unfold had me gripped from the beginning. Logan Anare did a fantastic job making sure all the voices were clear and distinct. I will definitely be looking to add more books by this narrator!

Great story and Fantastic performance

The narrator brought the story to life. He had a great reading voice, kept a good pace, expressed the emotions well and did different voices for the different characters. He did a very convincing Enlish accent for the teacher that was a joy to listen to. This was my first time listening to this narrator but I would love to listen to more from them.

Smokey and Eliah's MC Romantic Suspense Story

It’s been a year since the events in ‘Tidal Wave’ (Book 1). Smokey, as president of Broken Chains MC, has been working to establish alliances and build the reputation of the club. When a member of an outside MC is murdered in Broken Chains territory, danger increases for the small club. Smokey not only focuses on finding those responsible for the murder, but also protects the civilian witness to the murder, Eliah.

This sets up a close-proximity situation for Smokey and Eliah. Both men know that falling for each other is a bad idea, but can’t resist the feelings that develop. Author EM Lindsey also adds in opposites-attract, age-gap and a little bit of slow-burn into a story of two men letting love give them the courage to be together.

With this second book, it looks like the suspense arc of the story will be a continuous thread throughout the series. Smokey (and Guner before him) has a past that won’t easily go away. I look forward to how this will play out with the other couples’ stories in future books.

Logan Anare’s distinctly-voiced interpretations of Smokey and Eliah’s characters add realism to Lindsey’s story. I’m no expert, but the British accent sounds fine to my American ears. There are a few instances of mispronounced words here and there. Overall, it’s an enjoyable listen.

The audiobook ‘Backfire’ was given to me as a free review copy that I requested. This is my voluntary opinion of it.

Recommended.

Wrong place wrong time

If Eliah didn’t have bad luck he would have no luck. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time has put his life in jeopardy. Smokey has escaped his rough upbringing and is trying to start fresh with his own crew. But when Eliah’s bad luck meets up with Smokey’s past both men find themselves in a lot of danger. The narration was spot on, the story was good but was too drawn out at times. Story did leave questions unanswered in the end making me want to read/listen to the next story

Great narration and really engaging series

I love E M Lindsey's books, I always look forward to them and this did not disappoint. Their handling and inclusion of differently abled characters is always a joy and Lindsey is the type of author you feel you learn from. There's grit and action, and this is a well paced Motorcycle Club story.
I was nervous about the narrator - especially how they were going to handle Eliah's accent - but it was surprisingly great. I will definitely search him out again!
Overall Smokey and Eliah are really engaging heroes and at times an oddly endearing couple. Well worth a read but for maximum enjoyment I would start with Book 1 in the series.
Thoroughly recommend this audiobook.

A satisfying balance of gritty action and romance

This series has been much grittier and more action-packed than anything else I've read from E.M. Lindsey, but somehow their unique brand of romance still shone through. I warmed up to Smokey and Eliah slowly, between moments of heated passion and long stretches of pretending their connection was nothing more than a fling. As president, Smokey took on the role of protector not just for his family, but for his MC brothers as well. Eliah shouldn't have been part of that life at all, but through an unlucky twist of fate he ended up attracting the wrong kind of attention and needing Smokey's protection more than anyone. The ups and downs of keeping Eliah, Smokey, and the rest of the Broken Chains safe were just as chaotic and unexpected as the last book, but this one had all the lovely romantic moments I was missing from before. No, this certainly wasn't a traditional romance with dates and flowery confessions of love, but then again that wouldn't have felt right for Smokey and Eliah. Theirs was a softer, more subtly growing affection with plenty of tender care, thoughtful conversations, and passionate nights spent exploring each other's bodies. Though the two of them didn't verbalize their love until the very end of this story, I could feel it in the way they treated each other every day. Despite all the reasons being in love could have been a mistake, Smokey and Eliah chose to take that risk anyway. Even as Eliah's peacefully mediocre life fell to pieces around him, as demons from Smokey's past resurfaced and threatened to take everything from him, these two found a way and chose to be together.

Sexual tension, denied attraction, and revenge

The story moved a little slow at points, especially at the beginning, but overall it was sexy, dramatic, dangerous, and emotionally charged. The story involves motorcycle clubs, so there is some violence, but not too much and not overly graphic. However, if you are sensitive, there are scenes that could be triggering. I have to admit I was a little lost at the beginning, because I had not listened to the first book, so some of the events and characters were lacking in history which I assume was in that book, but it didn't take long to catch up and get invested, Complex story and characters, with elements of hurt/comfort, guilt, revenge, and redemption. I look forward to the next book.

The narration was great, and the voices were perfect - rough and gruff like I would expect for the club members, and gentle and mild for the British ex-pat professor and rabbi.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Entertaining!

Okay, so I'm late to the party, so to speak, and haven't listened to book 1 (which I hope to remedy soon), and while it shouldn't be read as a standalone, I wasn't too lost.

There's a continuing arc that started in book 1 and will continue in the next installment(s), so be advised that there'll be some issues that won't be resolved in this book. There's violence and mentions of past events that might be triggering, so proceed with care.

I really liked Eliah and how resilient he was. And I liked Smokey/Aaron, too, even if there were some times where I wanted to slap some sense into him. They were great together, despite being an unlikely pair, so I hope we get to see more of them in the next books in the series.

Backfire was entertaining, fast-paced, and engaging and even if the romance took a backseat to everything else happening, I was still invested in Eliah and Aaron getting their HEA.

Logan Anare is a new-to-me narrator and I really liked his style and the way he brought the story to life. My favorite was Smokey, although his Eliah wasn't that far behind.

Recommendable!

The Biker and the Professor

I enjoyed the first book in this new series and so happily nabbed the second one. Have to say I’m glad I did. I love damaged heroes and Smokey definitely falls into that category. He’ll do anything for his younger brother including challenging doddering old professors who take advantage of young men. Except Eliah isn’t a doddering old man. No, he’s a damn attractive younger man who catches Smokey’s attention. Things get hot, but the men decide the relationship shouldn’t veer in that direction. Back to distance. Until Eliah’s life is threatened. Then Smokey’s all in.

Eliah was injured as a teenager, and although he’s independent, he’s also not in fighting shape. His mind is his weapon of choice, and the threats to his life have to be taken seriously. When push comes to shove, though, he’ll protect those he loves. Loving the head of motorcycle club isn’t easy, but then he’s never taken the easy path, so why start now? The men were meant to be together. An there is another book in the series and I’m looking forward to it.

I mentioned Logan Anare in my last review and I’ll do it again. He’s a new narrator to me and I enjoyed his performance tremendously. Can’t wait for the next book.

Leaving the bad MC wasn’t enough…

Smokey and his little brother Rory have escaped their father’s hellish MC. Smokey was done with bikers after all he had to do for his father. Now years later, he is the President of his own MC. He keeps Rory out of everything and in the University but one of his professors becomes a witness to a crime that will put them all in danger. Eliah has a thing for Smokey, which becomes more as they hide from the enemy. Good start of a series and good narration.

Hot romance and suspense

I knew I was going to love this one as soon as I found it involved Smokey having to act as a protector to a professor who witnessed something he shouldn't have. Add in the fact that these two had known each other through Smokey's little brother and a one night stand they shared and I was hooked. The writing and narration more than lived up to my expectations. Smokey is suffering from a bad case of impostor syndrome and Eliah has his own demons to deal with. Forcing them to together makes them face reality about themselves and their pasts and shows them how strong they are both individually and together. The plot involving the murder provided great suspense. Logan Anare gives a wonderful performance here. It is matter of fact when it needs to be to set a scene or describe things and then provides all the emotions when the characters are interacting. Nothing over the top, the tone and characterizations are perfect all the way through.

Raw and gritty

Eliah and Smokey are worlds apart but the author ade them work.
Smokey can't just stand by while Eliah is in trouble.
They both have pasts that have left them leery and afraid so they have a lot issues to work through both individually and as a couple.
Plenty of action and steamy moments.
This was a new to me author and I enjoyed his narration.
