This book made me cry. Read in one sitting. Loved that street named rivers etc. were familiar as I live in the triangle area.
Shari Peele is an excellent narrator and I will look for other books read by her.

This was such a loving and fun read from this author. I have read a few of her LGBTQ romances and loved them, so I expected no less. The narrator was also easy to follow and did not have a monotonous tone throughout the narration.

The storyline was good although it felt a bit rushed, especially in the first few chapters. It did seem to get more on pace further into the story. I was surprised by what Imani's secret turned out to be. Her relationship with Xavier appeared to be weaker than first presented. I felt like the author made him a little more dramatic than necessary when he found out her secret and not dramatic enough when he found out the details behind her secret. The ending was sweet. Overall, this was a pretty good read, there were moments when I found myself actually yelling at the characters as if they could hear me, lol. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, sweet love story.

Pretty Good

Initially, while the story moved slower than what I’m used to it was an ok book. However, I started to notice that the main male character was never held accountable for his actions. For instance, the main female character was really hurt by how he ended their relationship in the past, but she doesn’t mention it to him at all and he never truly apologized or explained why he did it and now why he knows he was wrong. Instead he tells her something along the lines of ‘I know I messed up let me make it up to you,’ and that was it. Then she shares something really traumatic about her past and he doesn’t believe her! And even after his friend shows him proof that she was being honest, she’s still the one that goes back to him and apologizes?!? It’s giving thirsty. It’s giving insecure. It’s giving lack of self worth. It’s giving celebrate toxic masculinity and not holding men accountable for their actions. How could you ever marry a man who doesn’t believe you experienced a traumatic experience? Even though he saw signs, like her uncontrollable shaking hands when she saw her perpetrator. Cmon son!

Young ladies reading this, please know you deserve better than what the main female character got in this book. You’re worth more. You’re worth being valued, prioritized and wholeheartedly believed. Getting a ring isn’t a prize when the man giving it to you isn’t one.
