Publisher's summary

From the international best-selling author of Black, White, and Jewish comes a "wonderfully insightful" (Associated Press) book that's destined to become a motherhood classic.

Like many women her age, 34-year-old Rebecca Walker was brought up to be skeptical of motherhood. As an adult she longed for a baby but feared losing her independence. In this very smart memoir, Walker explores some of the larger sociological trends of her generation while delivering her own story about the emotional and intellectual transformation that led her to motherhood.

Not about decision making, but a nice pregnancy memoir

I initially thought it would be about a woman deciding whether or not to have a baby. It was more about a woman who always wanted a baby but never had the right partner or circumstance until she was 33. It was a well-written memoir of her experience with pregnancy and childbirth. It is written much like a diary, going day-by-day through the whole 9 months experience. She does a good job explaining what having a baby means to her and why it is so important.
