In which the sleepless leaders of the Achaeans gather by night to ponder the peril that besets their camp, prompting the brave Diomed and wise Ulysses to don armour and venture stealthily among the foes to seek counsel and glory. Guided by cunning and favouring gods, they surprise a Trojan scout and slay the Thracian king Rhesus, then bear away his splendid horses to bolster the Argive steeds.
