An action-packed progression fantasy adventure from Inadvisably Compelled, the bestselling author of Paranoid Mage!

Underestimated. Underpowered. His greatest weapon is his mind.

Twenty years ago, the hero Glorybeam and the villain Blacktime fought. The aftermath leveled twenty city blocks, killed thousands, and orphaned hundreds. Neither of them have ever faced any consequences.

Isaac Hartson was one of those orphans. As a nominal-class metahuman–a dreg–he knows that he’ll never be able to hold them accountable by force, but years as a janitor have taught him the value of simple plans and hard work.

But once set in motion, events stay in motion, and in Star City there is always someone with an angle. Isaac will need more than just hard work and a simple plan to keep from being buried under the tide of consequences he’s created.

He was supposed to be a background character. Instead, he’s the glitch in their perfect system.

From the bestselling author of Paranoid Mage, OBJECTS IN MOTION is a progression fantasy adventure featuring an intelligence-based MC who is given a brawler power.

It's perfect for fans of Super Supportive, Invincible, and Superpowereds!

it's the same style as the paranoid mage, but it's speed runs the world's development and gets to the good part much faster. genuinely enjoyed all characters involved. I would recommend this if you enjoy the paranoid Mage series

an excellent if different book

this was a pretty enjoyable listen, the performance was good and the MC has an interesting (if a bit confusing) power. The persona aspect plays an interesting role, and definitely hope to see more of it. So far though my main issue is side characters, they really have no personality, there are sparks of something that might become personality, but basically in this book they are just tropes. I did enjoy it though, and will listen to the rest of the series, according to royal road it will only be 3 books, so hopefully they have time to develop more than just the MC

An interesting premise

People who liked Steelheart or Superpowereds would like this. The MC finds himself kind of in between the super heroes and villains through a lot of the story. This leads him into interesting situations. The world is cool and the MC’s ability is original. Overall it was a really good start to the series. The narration was really well done.

Cool superhero vibe

I really wanted to like this book. I really enjoyed the universe the author is building. The problem I have is the MC. He is very naive and to introspective at times.

Objects in Motion by Inadvisably Compelled feels very much like a spiritual successor to The Paranoid Mage, and that’s both its biggest strength and its main weakness.
I really enjoyed it overall. The tone, the meta aspects of the magic system, and especially the shifting disguises were highlights for me. The disguise element in particular is something I hope continues in future books, because it adds a lot of tension and also raises interesting questions about how it might shape the protagonist over time.
That said, I did find the characters a bit too similar to one another. It might have been influenced by the narration or voice acting, but at times the main character felt like an alternate-universe version of the protagonist from The Paranoid Mage. That similarity made some interactions feel less distinct than they could have been.
I also found parts of the power system a bit confusing. It leans quite meta, which is interesting, but it occasionally made it hard to pin down exactly what was happening or what the limits were.
Despite those issues, there’s a lot I liked here, especially the creativity and the setup for future developments. I’ll definitely reserve final judgment until the series is complete, since it feels like a story that will really come together over time.
For now, I’d rate it around a 7/10
(1 is terrible 5 is average 10 is an instant favorite)

this was a really fun book
