LEARN—PROGRESS—SURVIVE

Jason and his friends just wanted to spend a week at the lake house. Time to relax, hang out, and catch up on old times. Then the System arrived.

It only took a few hours for their world to become a real-life roleplaying game; trading some downtime for the need to learn new skills and powers while trying to defend their new home, their families, and survive.

They don’t know the rules. They don’t know what’s coming next. What they do know is; they need to reinforce and expand their fort while protecting it, keep leveling up, and explore a dangerous new world.

Jason and his friends have no choice but to grow as a team in this base building LitRPG that kicks off a new series.

So I enjoy more character level tension. More antagonist interaction. This is more Base building with any more complex morale dichotomy based on it. Theres going to be those that love this. I enjoy more interpersonal interactions with positive outcomes that lead to OP. Compared to base building leading to OP

Base Building at it … best?

It is unbelievably rare to see a book that does NOT rely on characters being idiots or humanity, even on the brink of extinction, still being selfish, unrealistic, and murderous. There was a point in the series, I think around book two, were I felt like it might be a bit boring and I paused to ask myself why. That's when it hit me that no one's being a dumbass. Often with heroes, they will leave someone dangerous to the community alive to the detriment of many. For the five main characters, while they did not want to be merciless, if someone threatened the community, they did what needed to be done. Realizing that these characters basically did what most of us would do in such a situation, I enjoyed the story a great deal more.

LitRPGs often feature one supremely OP MC and it can be quite fun, but having five main characters that are good friends, that really look out for each other, and while they have some plot armor, they really put it on the line in a way that makes you want to root for them.

Even better as the story progressed, especially in the last book, the ending was very satisfying. It's been a long time since I've been able to enjoy a book without losing it over people being absurd. If you find that part of your ability to suspend belief is now predicated on people always being foolish, this book is a breath of fresh air. I genuinely hope that the story continues at some point and if it does, the author can be sure I will be among the earliest of pre-orders. Well done!

What a Breath of Fresh Air!

Before I begin, let me preface this: I only made it 15 chapters in before I gave up, and there's every chance that the issues I'm about to outline improve later on; however, if a book takes 15 chapters to hook me, it doesn't deserve that chance.

I went into this series with relatively low expectations. This isn't my first litRPG, and I'm aware that it is a genre populated by first time authors and web-publishers. Those expectations, unfortunately, weren't quite low enough.

- For a series focused on a team rather than a single protagonist, every character - including the narrator - shows a shocking lack of any personality whatsoever. They feel less like characters and more like stock AI teammates with pre-coded callouts.

- The pacing is breakneck, with a few chapters encasing at least a month on the slow end, yet it seems that in all that time, nothing really happens. there's no real story here, just a setting. (And a bog standard system integration at that). All i really get is an account of the many fights the party has. I wosh i could say the author focused on action, but even that is lackluster.
-The narration itself feels like the weird kid on the bus giving a step by step account of his last MMO gaming session.

It feels as if it were written by the type of person to play an RPG but skip the cutscenes and dialogue. As if someone were playing DnD purely for the math, but abstaining from the roleplay aspect. This omnibus was literally so droning that i actually turned it off and had more fun paying full attention to my mind-numbing job. I may revisit it later and update this review if i change my mind, bjt at the moment I'm utterly disappointed.

perhaps the most boring book I've ever experienced.

The Good: Narrator isn't bad

The Mediocre: I would say the building mechanics, but the MC doesn't want to be in charge of anything. Yawn. He wants to level up, but do you know how he fights? He heals his teammates at a higher mana cost than normal healers. What a STRONG Druidic Defender....lmao.

The Bad: See below

I listen to A LOT of litrpg books, and you can throw a dart at them and it's better than this.

The MC in book 1 has NO offensive capabilites. But he can SOMEWHAT heal and cure poisons as a druid defender. That's ALL he does. Others quickly learn skills that does same things at lower mana costs. So he's special because???

Well, he does hit things with his staff, but mainly his role is to keep people alive through healing. This is the MC?

In real FICTIONAL life, he'd have his arse handed to him because he can't do anything on his own.

Maybe in book 2 it'll get better? NOPE. He's still passing up on those skills. When/IF he'll ever become a powerhouse is beyond me. I am done after 3/4 of book 2.

There is no drama. No buy in. I don't care for the village or the MC due to bouncing around...Poorly written.

Save your credit.
