The past never dies, it only lies in wait.

The necromancers are awakening an ancient power. The lines between different epochs are blurring.

While his enemies weave their deceitful web, Maximilian Richter invokes an ally who remembers a pre-abomination world.

Lives are the pieces in this chess game. Those who do not fear death—it's their move.

I really loved the story and its pacing—it kept me hooked throughout. My only gripe is that it sometimes feels too short, almost like a light novel. I just wanted more time in that world!

Good

This dude is up against a mechanical golem, he can destroy any machine with a touch, yet he doesn’t think to touch the golems to shut them down?! It really doesn’t make any sense why he wouldn’t just absorb the abomination running these machines instead of trying to chop it up?? He’s sitting there hacking at the thing instead of the simplest of solutions, “touch it.”

I don’t get it

I found this very boring. I found the earlier pretty good but this book could be skipped....not worth reading

Disappointing

I originally loved this series. It wasn't any kind of deep or crunchy system. the world building was limited, but enough and at least consistent. The main character was basically a Marry Sue, but he had to overcome challenged that there was just to much happening for him to deal with all by himself. It wasn't amazing, but it was good and a nice light listen.
This one just made it tough for me to follow because I constantly found myself drifting. I took more than one break, and I think i ended up going thru 2 other book during this one, becuase I would realize I wasn't listening and put on something that pulled me in enough to pay attention to. This one just didn't have what made me pay attention anymore.

I already have the next book in the series, so I'm planning on going thru that, and then I expect I'm finally done. We will see.

It become a struggle to get thru this
