She reads people for a living. He’s the one man she can’t decode.
Cleo Ambrosia’s uncanny ability to read people has made her indispensable to New York’s power players. Behind the reputation of “human lie detector,” she’s built a career on perception, control, and never being caught off guard. A former figure skating prodigy turned executive coach, Cleo is sharp, strategic, and deeply practiced at staying composed.
But when a cutting-edge tech firm hires her to refine their emotional intelligence strategy, she meets Dillon Whelan, the one client whose responses resist her instincts entirely.
Dillon built his success on logic, precision, and control. Systems that have never once asked him to be vulnerable. Cleo’s insight threatens the order he relies on, and their boardroom exchanges sharpen into a careful dance of wit and resistance, each conversation revealing more than either intends.
As professional lines blur and trust deepens, both must decide whether intimacy is worth risking the armor they’ve spent years perfecting.
What begins as a razor-sharp war of words deepens into a slow-burn romance that carries them from New York’s pressure-cooker intensity to the quiet reckoning of York, England, where ambition and vulnerability can no longer stay neatly separated.
Mind Reader is a clean, emotionally intelligent, slow-burn contemporary tech workplace romance about ambition, perception, and the courage it takes to be known.
Written with restraint and layered character growth, it offers a deeply satisfying, faith-touched happily-ever-after without explicit content.
For listeners who enjoy the emotionally driven, character-first love stories of Taylor Jenkins Reid, Sally Rooney, Katherine Center, and Emily Henry, with a clean, closed-door approach and a quieter, more deliberate pace.
Content note: Closed-door, PG-13 romance. Themes include grief, complicated family dynamics, and emotional recovery, handled with care and without explicit scenes.

This story had the most emotionally deep characters I’ve encountered. Not only was it a “romance” but the mental and emotional struggle to overcome was on point in a way some books leave out. The unraveling process for each character came with a deep understanding of their weaknesses before healing, total green flag. The additional MBTI mention was gold, and created a richness to the collaboration between main characters and locked in their communication pattern. Well done!
Well written, well executed in narration. The story carried me through from beginning to end- I felt their pain, ache, and love jump right off the page.
I have two pages of highlights- there are some really great nuggets! Not just from the conversation between the characters, but for love and life too.
I’m really looking forward to the next several books in this series, I really enjoyed Clio & Dillion’s story and this author’s writing style. A+ on narration!
The most emotionally captivating characters!

The narrators also did a fantastic job with the audiobook. Their voices were dynamic and expressive and definitely not dull to listen to. I definitely want to try out the ebook version next time I read it, perhaps even listen while I read. I look forward to the next book in the series!
Mind Reader was just what I needed!

I also really enjoyed the workplace romance aspect of this book. This is NOT normally a trope that I enjoy because it can easily start to feel icky. I enjoyed learning about the project that Clio and Dillon were working on. The arguments they had over the integrity of the project and how to responsibly use the technology was very interesting to learn about.
Both Clio and Dillon have past traumas and baggage they have to work through - but it was refreshing to see two adults work through their differences and break down the walls that were keeping them from making lasting connections with people.
I LOVED the female friend group. All the messages that they would send were witty and charming!
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good rom-com!
