"My dear fellow," said Sherlock Holmes, as we sat at either side of the fire in his lodgings at Baker Street, "life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. There is," the great detective commented, "nothing so unnatural as the commonplace."

From Cornish devils, to Welsh witches, from Ghazi genies, to Covent Garden mediums, from pagan sacrifices, to mummies' curses, The Infinitely Stranger Cases of Sherlock Holmes collects six canonical tales which test Holmes's ability to unravel the conspiracies, the misdirections, the strange, and the curious. The game is afoot.

This collection of stories by Paula Hammond cover a variety of strange cases including those of devils, witches, mummies curses, genies, and mediums. The adventures take Holmes and Watson all across England investigating and solving cases. These stories are so well written with wonderful detail, and could fit within the original canon. The narration by Michael Langan is outstanding. He creates unique voices, accents, inflections etc for the numerous characters in the 6 different stories. His performance brings the characters and stories to life.

I was waiting eagerly for this follow-up to he "Eliminate the Impossible" and was not disappointed. Again we have six stories which bring me back to the memories of my childhood listening to the original Artur Conan Doyle stories I used to have my mother check out for me in my youth from the library and listen to on LPs. Here we get mysteries tied to Djinn and Mummies, Devils and Welsh Witches, among others, I listened to these tales immediately after returning to the US after leaving Wales, traveling through Paddington. and while I had been in South Wales, so many of the images in "The Bryniau Witch Tower" rang so fresh in my mind. Paula again adds so much with her notes at the end of each story, adding depth and understanding to the the story in context to the times in which each is set. I recommend this collection along with its predecessor Sherlock Holmes - Eliminate the Impossible.

Infinitely Stranger Cases an Excellent Follow-up!

Author Paula Hammond brings a unique perspective to Holmes and Watson. Most of the stories are not traditional mysteries, rather they had the hint of the paranormal, cults, etc. Since these are strictly no-no's in true Holmes pastiches, Hammond gives more natural explanations. She also gives Holmes a more "human" personality than the "thinking machine" character that many writers bestow upon our hero.

I enjoy that each story has an "end notes" section that explains words, locations and unique facts mentioned within each story. Topping off this excellent collection is the brilliant narration by Michael Langan. He brings all of the characters to life very believably.

I am more than happy to recommend this book!

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson have several cases in this book that would seem to be involved with other realms of reality, but Holmes using logic and common sense prevails, despite many of Watson's first reactions.

Onward Watson!
