New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us back to her breathtakingly passionate Guild Hunter World, where an impending transformation will be both an ending and a beginning . . .
Aodhan and Illium. Adi and Blue. Sparkle and Bluebell. Friends become lovers, their future a wild unknown.
Finally reunited in New York, they must now learn to navigate the monumental shift in their relationship. But for these two members of Archangel Raphael's legendary Seven, there is no time to rest. As they investigate a case for the Tower that echoes the darkness from Aodhan's past, they will be forced to confront not only the scars that mark them both, but the promise of a vast power that flickers in Illium.
The threat of ascension has haunted and troubled Aodhan's Blue for too long, the forces of change immutable and without mercy . . . and uncaring of Illium's fierce wish to remain part of the Seven. Change is a constant in an immortal's life, and this new horizon will bring with it both terrible heartbreak and a joy extraordinary enough to reverberate through time . . .
Contains mature themes.

I guess the skips in time are smoother going from ‘Today’ to different points in ‘Yesterday’. If the story just picked up from the previous book, there would still need to be significant jumps in time, but it would be more boring and wouldn’t be as good at advancing the story while noting milestones.
Singh does a fairly good job with a M/M committed relationship without slamming you in the face with it. While I have zero interest in stories about same-sex relationships, I really really like these characters and have followed them/the series for years. The most important point is they are fully mature adults who truly LOVE each other. It doesn’t hurt that they are lifelong friends - since they were practically infants. Also that Rafael, Dmitri & Naasir have all acted as surrogate parents to the then baby angels.
In the Yesterday chapters, we get milestones or snapshots in time. In the Today chapters we get the inevitable ascension and what happens right afterward. It hurts the heart that there’s a separation from Rafael & Elena. It gladdens the heart how well regarded Illium is, along with Aodhan, and how many choose to join him in his new territory. And we get Illium’s naturally positive attitude along with his humor and irreverence that give hints to what his reign will be like. :::Smiles:::
I would have loved to find out what happened to Ellie’s vampire grandparents & Beth’s descendants & the reason for Eve’s conversion. Did the Angel Andreas find a special someone? Maybe Ms Singh could write one or two novellas if she felt motivated? 🙏
Eyre did a very decent job with narration but I believe there was a little mispronunciation going on.
Many, many thanks to Ms Singh for a very enjoyable series with characters we wish were our personal friends.
I would personally rate at 4.5.

I have waited for these two to get their happily ever after, in whatever form it may come in. Aodhan and Illium are probably my favorite characters in the series, with Nassar being a very close third. So my anticipation was through the roof!!
The story of what happened to Aodhan, when he was young, was told in an earlier book, and it was heart breaking. But with Illium as a best friend, he’s finally starting to heal. He has come a very long way from the angel we met in the first book. He couldn’t handle touch at all, let alone intimate touching.
Illium had a difficult youth also, with his dad being an archangel that was dismissive and down right mean. His mom’s mental state was precarious for the majority of Illium’s life. But she finally comes out of it and feels so much guilt for her actions.
Throughout the book, Illium and Aodhan work together to solve crimes and mysteries in the past and in the future. And of course they share Smoke the cat. Their friendship started when they were children and went on for centuries before either of them decided to take their relationship to the next level. Their love has a strong base to grow on for the centuries they plan to be together. Never without difficulties of course, but solid.
I loved this book, as I do every book by Nalini Singh. As I said, I wanted these to to have a happy ending, though I wouldn’t have guessed it would be together in this way. The only thing I didn’t care for was the way time keeps going from today to yesterday. I get distracted a bit too easily to have it going back and forth. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone that’s read the rest of the Guild Hunter books! I would say if you haven’t read them, I wouldn’t try this one. There’s a lot of things that it’s assumed you’d know from the previous books. Good news is: the rest of the books are just as amazing!!
5 Stars!!
I received a copy of this ebook from NetGalley for an honest review, but I also purchased the audio version from Audible.
