I find some allies along the way, including a highborn blonde with a sassy mouth, but it’s clear to me that I’ll need all the help I can get.

Especially when my coming shakes the foundations of the entire continent—all the way to the long-dormant throne of the High Mage King itself.

I hope they’re ready for me.

Nice start, Jessica Threet is amazing!

Nice start to another series. only critique is male voice actor is just so-so but the story carries you through. Jessica Threet is amazing!

Excellent first book in series

Really enjoyed this book more than I expected. The MC was competent, the LIs and relationship building felt real, and the action and consequences were both exciting and realistic. Great job, can’t wait for book 2!

Good one

Honestly while I found the story entertaining I doubt i will be getting book 2 because how useless both of the love interests were, like on the early chapters Eva was able to hold her own with a bow but then she is just useless and apparently forgot the bow in some inn because she never used it again. the mc is really competent so that's good just having to spend a lot of time saving both tess and Eva over and over

I really like how this book started off. The story was great.The voice actors were great, and i'm really looking forward to what comes next.

there was just to much stupidity

the characters make the stupidest choices and the main character gets distracted way to easy and thinks about just random and dumb stuff

eh not Shane's best work

The story is blah, doesnt flow like the authors other works, and the dialog is extremely cringe at times. Its almost like this was Shane's first attempt at a novel, that never got made, the after his other series did so well, the publisher was like we have THIS! And the book was released. As for narration Jessica Threet was top notch (5 stars), Boise not so much(1 star), actually he is really bad. He is the reason I didnt finish another series; I am just so used to really good narrators that these new ones just finding their footing can ruin a book for me. Sorry Shane, wont be getting the next one in this series but, cant wait for more of your Demon Academy audiobooks!

It’s alright

If Conner is supposed to be a high mage king the author isn’t great at building up to it, I’m more then halfway through the book and it’s super slow and not a lot of action or hints of anything. Giving by the title I’d figure that Conner is a high mage king but the author isn’t that great at building his power or doesn’t know where they are taking the book, the narrator is great though!!! Jessica threet is awesome!

could do without the sexual tension

I love the story but hated the unnecessary sexual tension and innuendos. It seems like it will be turning into a harem story in future volumes. I had to skip several chapters of unnecessary dialog that cringed. You have a coming of age story where young adults are coming into their own and developing their elemental. magical powers. You have a mysterious background for the MC who is becoming overpowered. You have adventures while travelling to magic academy. You even have a few "wow" moments. All are my favorite story elements. Over all, it is a simple story without any complicated plots or surprises.
I will not be continuing the series but only because of the cringingness.

As far as the narration, even though they done good with the different characters. The male narrator was too loud and sounded like he were too close to the microphone. And why does the main character have both a male and female voice? It was distracting.
