Publisher's summary

An orphan boy "borrows" a boat in Amalfi. What could possibly go wrong…?

The year before revolution breaks out in France, Ettore sees an opportunity to add coins to the strong boxes he keeps hidden near his hammock in the brothel where he’d lived since birth. But will he cheat fate in an open boat on the Tyrrhenian Sea the way he fleeces the tourists and pilgrims he guides in his native Amalfi?

Would the hard lessons he’d learned in the streets of Amalfi help him in his time of need? Or would the stormy seas and Algerian corsairs, who snatched him for sale on the slave market teach him another lesson? While fighting to survive, young Ettore confronts his origins, beliefs, and his own shortcomings when a sacrifice is required to aid the friends he makes along the way.

A Captive in Algiers, a prequel to the Muhammad Amalfi Mystery Series, is about identity, fidelity, struggle, friendship, and more. If you like fast-paced historical fiction set in unusual places, then you will definitely love this book by author AJ Lewis.

EXCELLENT HISTORICAL NOVEL SERIES!

I have just discovered this amazing historical series and have completed reading and listening to the first book, A Captive in Algiers. Not only is A J Lewis a gifted author he is also an outstanding reader of his audiobook! That is a rare pairing of skills, my over 1,000 audiobook library from Audible has taught me over the past decade. Very few professional published authors would ever attempt to write their books without some writing courses, usually equivalent to university Master's level classwork. But, very sadly, those same authors will often attempt to copy the professional output of trained voice actors or reader/narrators without any training at all. My number one reason for returning Audible audiobooks is author narrated disasters! Just because one can write well does NOT mean that same author can professionally narrated the book she or he wrote. These are completely separate skills sets!

Thankfully A J Lewis is as talented a narrator as he is a writer! I completely enjoyed reading and listening to both the Kindle edition ebook and the Audible audiobook edition. I strongly recommend both editions of A J Lewis's A Captive in Algiers and look forward to purchasing the other books in his historical series!
