Publisher's summary

Taking from a Barrow? Not a good idea.

Ethan's family has fallen from owning a manor to scraping by on a small farm. As he approaches manhood, his prospects don't look very promising. And Arabella, the girl he's set his sights on, is the daughter of the Squire. Goaded by his younger brother, Ethan enters the Barrow, fights for his life with the tomb guardian, and escapes with a silver gorget.

Ethan hatches a plan to impress Arabella with the gorget. At the same time, the Sniggard, who guards the Barrow, makes plans to retrieve the stolen item. Ethan's plans go horribly awry. The Squire stands in his way. The Sniggard kidnaps Arabella. And Ethan stumbles into Faerie.

It's up to Ethan to fix the mess he's created and rescue Arabella from a life of captivity with the Sniggard. But how's a farm boy supposed to accomplish any of those monumental tasks?

The Sniggard's Revenge is a gripping novel of fantasy adventure. If you like strong and dynamic characters, rich descriptions, magic, and trips to Faerie, then you'll love Jeff Chapman's The Sniggard's Revenge.

Exciting and action-packed - by Shana W

This is another amazing story by Jeff Chapman. It is action-packed, exciting, and vastly entertaining. The characters are three-dimensional and they each have realistic and interesting character traits. I found myself rooting for the MC, Ethan. For me, the main takeaway from the story was the very obvious domino effect caused by Ethan's inability to pass up a dare. Because of that, he ends up entering the barrow, finding the gorget, giving it to his love interest Arabella, and enraging the Sniggard, all of which lead bit by bit to Ethan's future choices that end up greatly affecting his family and friends. The plot line is very original and well constructed.  I loved Ethan's trips into Faerie and all the humour in the book.  I could not stop listening to the audiobook, which was narrated with wonderful expression and pacing by James Young.

Really Dark Fae Adventure w/ Necromancy

Parents- PG13 - middle school and up
Language- PG13 - mostly b words and d*mn not super heavy and no f-bombs
Violence- PG13-R - brutally killing people (a split skull fairly graphic) there's quite a bit of blood and gore mentioned so the squeamish should avoid. There's necromancy on the split skulled governess who has to keep a scarf wrapped around the head to keep the two halves together, some torture (chopping off tips of fingers)
Sexual Content- nothing to warn of

This was a pretty intense read, a lot of fun but not for the faint of heart with blood and gore. The author does a fantastic job of character and world building, I love the travels between our world and the fae realm. There's plenty of action, monsters & fae creatures, and the humor throughout the story was a great tension breaker which I greatly appreciated. Definitely recommend for the darker fae genre readers.

Narrator- 5⭐ I really loved the accent, reading pace and acting skills were great. He really was a fun narrator to listen to.

Love... and the off the handle journey to earn it.

Received as a review copy from Story Origin, this is and honest review. Narrated exceptionally by James Young, delivers this amazing, wildly fleshed out fantasy adventure as Ethan desires showcasing his love to Arabella; he just had no idea crazy journey his actions would unleash. To impress his hopeful love, Ethan goes deep within a Barrow, battles a vicious Sniggard to claim a silver gorget; but his plans to south as escaping the creature causes Ethan to fall into the realm of Faerie and in need of help to with his wounds and a path home. Accepting the aid of faerie couple plunges Ethan into the odd world of magic and eerie beasts of the realm; getting home is one adventure but Ethan finds, brings a whole new journey- one that's just as crazy as this original plans. This time the Sniggard has captured Arabella and Ethan's new plan is to give the bizarre monster a mate in exchange for his love; the dead body Arabella's governess becomes an odd pawn taking Ethan and his friends back to Faerie... and a unique bit of mis-adventure along the way. A very smart, witty story penned by the author. Highly recommended.

Great Coming-Of-Age Fantasy

I enjoyed this story a lot. The story was about a boy who stole a silver gorget, only to find that his actions had consequences. The tale was amazing with many twists and turns. The characters were interesting, and Ethan had some character growth. The worldbuilding was complicated as the author depicted both the human world and the land of Faerie. James Young's narration was good, and his performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Great narration, but story is hard to follow.

While I enjoyed the characters in the book, and the main premise was brilliant, the writing style was very hard to follow at times, and I found myself going back over sections again and again in order to understand what was actually going on. As such, it took me a very long time to finish the book, and I started losing interest about halfway through. It did pick up a bit more at the end, but the whole thing reads a bit more like an old fable than an adventurous Fantasy story. There are some great moments of humor that come in at just the right times; I just wish the writing style wasn't so meandering, as this could have gotten a few more stars from me had it been more straightforward.

I will add that the narration for the book was phenomenal! Easy to follow and expressive!

Dark humor and misadventures

A slightly dark tale of misadventures for poor Ethan. Things go from bad to worse for him. Who knew trying to impress a girl would result in death and mayhem?

The story has great world building and vivid descriptions, along with (mis)adventures, drama, trauma, and some dark humor. The trips to Faerie are fun and that world brought to life with all kinds of Fae creatures.

James Young was a great narrator. I liked his accent and his interpretation of Ethan. It was easy to tell who was speaking.

The Sniggard's Revenge: A Fantasy Adventure by Jeff Chapman was a well written and well narrated audiobook that I greatly enjoyed! I found myself quite taken with Ethan and I liked how his plan to impress the girl backfired into an abduction and a needed rescue!

Not my normal read, or I thought.

This is a great book to read/listen to. I don't think I would have picked this book up at the store. But I am glad that I wanted to review this book. I really like how the land of the Fairies was. It did keep my interest. Don't judge a book by its cover!

I received this book as an ARC for free in return for a review in my own words.
