A new witch in the making.

After moving to Kalhoun County, Gemma gets a job at a Bed and Breakfast as a grounds keeper.
The owner is an eccentric old lady who just happens to be a Witch. She recognizes that Gemma is a witch that needs training and sets out to do just that.

Enjoyable story

I liked this book. The storyline was interesting. I liked the characters they are well developed and relatable. Its a good start for a series. I will be continuing the series.

Pace was too slow for my preference

This might be considered cozy to some, but I'd describe it as stagnant. The main mystery was being drawn out too long. The main character kept lying and stealing and then wondering why people didn't trust her. She literally was planning to steal while apologizing for breaking trust about something else.

I would have preferred if the MC found out about the Witches early and then spent the rest of the book taking magic lessons.

I'm a bit shocked that this book has such a high average rating. My fellow book reviewers are usually the more critical ones when it comes to these "slow burn" books.

The narrator was a decent fit. I just wished it either had a faster pace and more magic. either one of those would have easily taken this to a higher rating.
