JAMES BOND IS PUT TO THE TEST AGAINST AN EGOTISTICAL SCIENTIST WITH NEFARIOUS AIMS
Dispatched by M to investigate the mysterious disappearance of MI6’s Jamaica station chief, Bond was expecting a holiday in the sun. But when he discovers a deadly centipede placed in his hotel room, the vacation is over.
On this island, all suspicious activity leads inexorably to Dr. Julius No, a reclusive megalomaniac with steel pincers for hands. To find out what the good doctor is hiding, 007 must enlist the aid of local fisherman Quarrel and alluring beachcomber Honeychile Rider.
Together they will combat a local legend the natives call “the Dragon,” before Bond alone must face the most punishing test of all: an obstacle course?designed by the sadistic Dr. No himself?that measures the limits of the human body’s capacity for agony.

I did not remember much about the film adaptation of #drno when I started into this, the sixth installment of #jamesbonf movels other than it was the first movie in the series starring #seanconnery and it featured the first #bondgirl in #ursulaandress as the incomparable #honeyrider. Suffice it to say they dramatically verred from the original story which was a little more vague as to the cause for Dr. No',s villainous inclination.
In the book, James is dispatched to Jamaica while still on the mend from his injuries in From Russia With Love. Supposedly just a low risk mission to investigate the disappearance of the MI6 Station Chief, whom most believe he ran away from what is a boring station with his secretary, Bond discovers the mysterious goings on of the shadowy owner of Crab Key, who runs his Guano mining island completely isolated from everyone.
Reuniting with his comrade Quarrel, a Caymanian, who is tasked to put him back into shape after a long recuperation to prepare for the challenging overwater trip to the Key. It became apparent that Dr. No had eyes everywhere on Jamaica so Bond had to isolate himself at a remote beach house that had been his Jamaican lair in "Live and Let Die." As is typical in a Bond novel, James encounter with his villain invariably turns into an elaborate gauntlet for James to run.
It is not a deep story but, it's a Bond story, so it is no doubt entertaining, Likewise, it launched Ian Fleming down the cinematic pathway which has given up over 50 years of movies. It is definitely worth the read.

I read the sad news about Jon.. RIP.
What are the odds we could get Russell Crowe to narrate a few exciting books like this for Audible? He would be great!
Dr. No was absolutely a twist.. full of suspense and action.. terrifying plot that doesn’t go without a steamy wicked romance.. Bond is supernatural in this one.. a serious tough guy.. who.. spoiler alert.. under the absolute worst possible circumstances.. cannot be defeated. Of course he is the classiest gentleman who seems to win at everything.. including wonderful, natural, beautiful love making. What a tremendous killing off of the enemies.. what an extraordinary escape..
The impression of Sean Connery as Bond by Jon Culshaw was very good. RIP
