When an electromagnetic pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.

Excerpt:

“Shut up!” one of the men who’d pulled him from the house barked and kicked him in the stump that was once his leg. Ira released a wail of pain, both of his hands shot to his destroyed leg.

“Leave him alone!” I yelled. The man turned toward me and walked over. He knelt in front of me and put his face uncomfortably close to mine.

“You wanna join him? I can arrange it!” he growled in my face. His rancid breath was nearly enough to make me gag.

“You wanna take these cuffs off and have a go at it?” I sneered. Without warning, he grabbed the shoulder strap of my body armor and threw me to the ground. I rolled to my back and looked up at him. I could see the rage boiling behind his eyes. “I guess you only mess with one legged men and handcuffed girls. What’s the matter? Can’t take someone in a fair fight?"

He unsheathed the large bowie knife from its place on his belt and took a step closer. I drew my knees up like I was going to try and push myself away. In reality, I was setting myself up to deliver one hell of a kick to this dude’s nuts. He was suddenly distracted and stopped his approach, his whole demeanor changed in a flash. I twisted my head to try and see what he was looking at. It turned out to be who he was looking at. Ken Shaw strode out of the early evening shadows.

“What the hell’s going on here, Mr. Bradshaw?” Ken asked as he stepped over Ira and then me. He seemed to ignore both of us and was intently staring at the man with the rotten teeth and bad breath.

“I, I, I...” Bradshaw stammered. Ken was standing directly in front of him now.

“What was my explicit order regarding the Marshals?"

“You wanted them alive?” Bradshaw responded questioningly.

“And?"

“Unharmed. You wanted them unharmed."

“Is that why you threw her to the ground?” Ken pointed back toward me. “Were my orders so unclear that you felt the need to throw a handcuffed woman to the ground and draw your pig sticker? What were you planning on doing, Mr. Bradshaw?"

Amazing

I have listened to this series not once but twice over. Since then I've made my Mom, brother, Compadre, and at least 4 Cousins new members of Audible and they too have listened or are currently listening. I have to admit I knew nothing about the plot, ratings or reviews when I started listening. What drew me to them was the Narrator. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE CHRISTOPHER LANE!! The first two books of his I listened to were A Gift of Time and Odd Billy Todd. Since then I have followed him every and anywhere. Where do I begin? The layout, the delivery, and the buildup for all of the books in The Ranch Book Series are for lack of a better work BRILLIANT!!. In the back of my head I've always felt like something would happen to the world we know and will result in very similar situations as in the books. As a mother I pray it never does. As a stubborn, strong willed natural born leader I know it is a possibility. I never thought myself to be a listener of audiobooks. But 3 years and 504 titles in my library I think very different now. With that being said there are people I've recommended Audible to but it just wasn't their cup of tea. So I am calling out any Movie Director or anyone close to a movie director with connections to them pitch this series to them!!! There are A LOT of evil and corrupt people in the world. No one will argue when I say it is a different world then it was 10, 20, or even 30 years ago. However, there still are some good people in the world. They are few but they are there. If these books were turned into a movie, I think we will be that much closer to surviving a castostrophic disaster as such. Thank you to the author for your amazing insight perfect structure and amazing delivery. Christopher Lane, thank you once again for your amazing narration, individual identification of each character. You are truly a one man band! Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

Sean Liscom did such a good job imo on his rendition of an EMP situation. One of the best series on this topic I’ve listened to.

I have been enjoying this series.

Loved this series. Would recommend it.
All ages should enjoy this, violence is an issue.

I have enjoyed all 6 in the series. Gritty, very detailed and also somewhat realistic. IYKYK. Great read in my opinion would and will definitely recommend.
