Acerca de esta escucha
Quinny's father lay on the frozen, snow-covered ground, bleeding to death from a gunshot wound to his neck. Hours earlier, the storm passed over the White Mountains of East Central Arizona, heading toward New Mexico. With no clouds in the sky, the cold was biting, cutting. Every labored breath froze his lungs. Even the pathetic fire struggled for life. She slowly approached him.
"Come with me," she said.
"No, no! I can't. I can't leave Quinny."
"It is your time."
"No, please. Not yet. Quinny needs me. Please!"
The beating sound of a helicopter's blades drew his attention away from the woman for just a moment. A spotlight from the helicopter locked on as troops encircled him. When he looked back, she was gone.
"He's bleeding! He's dying! He needs medical treatment immediately!" said one of the surrounding officers. A handcuff dangled from his wrist like a bracelet, one end attached to nothing but a mystery.

Ahed Tamimi is a world-renowned Palestinian activist, born and raised in the small West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, which became a center of the resistance to Israeli occupation when an illegal, Jewish-only settlement blocked off its community spring. Tamimi came of age participating in nonviolent demonstrations against this action and the occupation at large. Her global renown reached an apex in December 2017, when, at sixteen years old, she was filmed slapping an Israeli soldier who refused to leave her front yard. The video went viral, and Tamimi was arrested.

Historia
On June 7, 1998, James Byrd, Jr., a 49-year-old black man, was dragged to his death while chained to the back of a pickup truck driven by three young white men. It happened just outside of Jasper, a sleepy East Texas logging town that, within 24 hours of the discovery of the murder, would be inextricably linked in the nation's imagination to an exceptionally brutal, modern-day lynching. In this superbly written examination of the murder and its aftermath, award-winning journalist Joyce King brings us on a journey that begins at the crime scene.

As a child in Montana, Jamie Gehring and her family shared their land, their home, and their dinner table with a hermit with a penchant for murder. But they had no idea the odd recluse living in the adjacent cabin was anything more than a disheveled man who brought young Jamie painted rocks as gifts. Ted was simply Ted, and erratic behavior, surprise visits, and chilling events were dismissed because he was “just the odd hermit”. In fact, he was much more—Ted eluded the FBI for 17 years while mailing explosives to strangers, earning the infamous title of Unabomber.

It seemed that Donna had reached the end—at age 19, due to her own mistakes and bad choices, her life was over. Must read!
For better or for worse, I quickly judge a book by its ability to grab my attention from the start, and this book did just that. My attention was captured for the whole of the book and my heart ached for the injustices Walkadoo and Quinny experienced through the justice system. This book is absolutely a must read. The narrator did an excellent job. Easy to listen to and read with feeling and compassion. I would recommend this audible book!

A story that needs to be told
This is an important story that should be told and retold to help our justice system improve in its ability to provide greater equity and fairness to all people regardless of background. The true story is engaging and keeps the reader interested to hear what happened next. Narration is excellent.

Riveting story
The book was riveting from beginning to end! The narration created a beautiful visual of a culture and family steeped in faith, traditions and courage. I found myself reflecting on my own courage, strengths and fears with each chapter of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the smooth, easy pace of narration amidst the harsh reality of injustice.

This story needs to be told!
I started listening to this book more as a favor for a friend. Turns out she was doing me the favor by bringing this book to my attention. Matthew D. Hutcheson has written this story in such a way, that I was immediately hooked. I felt instant compassion for this father and son. As thoughts were shared, I wanted to jump into the story to help the communication process between law enforcement and Wakado. I was completely unaware of such modern day criminal justice issues. I am a middle school social studies teacher. There are so many cultural, legal, and social issues within this story that my students could learn from. My heart goes out to Wakado, Quinny, and all the families involved in this tragic accident. I hope we can take these stories and do our part to help the necessary change take place.
I was a little curious as to how it would be listening to a female reading the story of males for the Audible version. I actually think the story was better for it. There was an innocence portrayed that came through the reading. This allowed for a greater connection to those whose story we’re hearing. I’d like to go back and read a hard copy version of the book now. I’m pretty sure I missed a few important details while listening, but that’s common for me to do when I listen on Audible. Definitely a five-star book and reading! I will be recommending this book to anyone and everyone.
