Sir Michael Caine knows a thing or two about gangs: whether that’s joining one as a kid, or playing gangsters in movies for over 50 years. Organised crime has captivated pop culture for decades, from the Krays to the Mafia.

Now Caine delves into the real stories behind the gangs we think we know so well, revealing the hidden realities behind the myths. And he throughout the series he asks: can a gang ever truly be ‘successful’?

Underwhelming, Nauseous and Slightly Misleading

Like most users, I suspect, I chose to listen to this audio book because of Michael Caine. When you actually get to hear his voice (there are a number of others) his performance is classic Caine—brilliant. However, like most topics these days, instead of being entertaining the producers have elected to turn the program into a platform for social politics—cue the vomit.

Explaining how John Gotti became John Gotti is one thing. Asserting that it was racism, poverty and the lack of ‘social capital’ that caused Gotti to become a sadistic, violent criminal that plagued his own people and society as a whole is quite another.

Next time you want to bring in so-called experts to upstage Michael Caine (who again, is brilliant) may I humbly suggest a new title and place it in the psychology/political/social mad-science section:

Michael Caine (and other randos): Gangs and how you and the rest of society can feel bad about being the reason they exist.

starts strong, ends poorly.

Michael Caine 's delivery is spot on. I enjoyed the first few episodes and learned a few things. By the end the excuses for aberrant behavior because of skin color wrote thin. Every scum bag criminal in this series was white up until the final one who, for some reason, her dark colored skin made her criminality excusable or sympathetic.

Michael Caine

my only critical point would be the choice of putting background music every 30 seconds. But this is more than made up with Michael Caine's smooth buttery voice.

Skin color is no excuse for being a Criminal

Starts off good then falls flat to the modern agenda on how whites are just bad people in general and colored people have an excuse for committing crimes when they do commit them... 5 stars for the beginning 0 for the end
