Publisher's summary

Count yourself lucky (in a Chinese kind of way), because you just bumped into a book of three documents that have been combined to give you the greatest value for your money. These are:

Book 1: The sociology and mythology of the Chinese culture has a long, extended history, and the creatures and superpowers in them have often been neglected by western culture.

But not for long!

As you listen through this gem of a book, you will find all kinds of answers to questions related to Chinese mythology, such as:

  • What role do Confucianism and Buddhism play in their religion?
  • What kinds of gods and goddesses were there?
  • Did the Chinese really believe in spirits?
  • What is Taoism and how does it relate to any of these things?
  • What were the conditions in society at the time of the myths?
  • What were their perceptions and beliefs about the five elements they came up with?

Book 2: In this epic collection of Chinese myths and folklore, you'll listen about dragon and dragon kings, love, lust, superpowers, mercy, vengeance, hell, paradise, gods, goddesses, and the elements. You'll go on a journey to the east, where the oriental culture was polytheistic and perhaps a little superstitious at the same time. You will listen about the amazing stories people came up with or the fables that were based on personal experiences or encounters with those beyond the physical realm.

Book 3: Many people think of the Greek or the Romans when they think of mythology, but the Chinese have an extensive history of myths and mysterious beliefs in the supernatural. In this guide, you will become acquainted with the most common stories and gods from the orient. Stories and legends such as the eight immortals, the war between the gods, the famous story of the monkey king, the alchemist, the Yen Ch’ eng god, and so many others will blow you away.

Smart

This is some smart stuff. The author of the book apparently put a lot of work into this. So did the narrator. Holy Hannah! Good job, guys!

Get it with your credit@

You can easily calculate the value of a 14 and a half hour book by advising people to get it with your monthly credit. And that's what I'm doing. Chinese mythology is interesting, at least that's what I thought. So thank you. That was great.

Whoa!

Whoa! 14 hours of Chinese mythology? Well, there was some history and background and culture in there too. But hey, it was great. I enjoyed the stories, the gods, the mystery, and even the difficult-to-pronounce names somehow.

Unknown author

Something strange is going on here. The contents of this book are fine and informative, but there are two books on Audible called "Mythology" One by this author, the other by John Feisel, they are basically the same book, just repurposed and it's unlikely either is the original author. From what I can tell, the original author wrote this book between 1920 and 1950. At one point the author claims to be present at a trail in 1917.

Maybe it is all above board, but don't buy both books.

Somewhat out of date

This book was evidently written over a century ago. The author at one point says the year is 1917. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I wish that was made more transparent. This book was written almost 50 years before the bulk of the civil rights movement so a lot of the descriptions of China are pretty racist. I liked the stories and mythology part, but you have to take everything with a grain of salt and remember that this text was written in a different era.
