Mt. Clemens, Michigan, 1887. Seventeen and headstrong, with marriage on her mind, Maggie is sure she has found her one true love. But when she collides head-on with betrayal, overwhelming loss, and ill-treatment, her life unravels.

In a time when women had few rights, Maggie rises above adversity through rare determination and grit, becoming an independent woman ahead of her time. Yet before she can truly find peace, one heartbreaking, life-altering decision remains.

Inspired by her great-grandmother's life, the author weaves a timeless story of survival and courage set against the backdrop of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and the prairies of eastern Montana at the turn of the 20th century.

I really enjoyed this very detailed account of Maggie’s life - both from the author’s detailed words and from the narrator’s amazing voicing of it. I do recommend it for its personal story and its historical value of ‘women in our past.’

A brave woman’s story...recounted...

I just finished listening to Maggie. The author really knows how to write! The book kept me listening all day long I could not put it down. Maggie has a hard life and is brave enough to get out of it time and again. Seeming to always pick the wrong man. She still makes a life for herself and her children. The narrator is great. I loved listening to her voice as she reads the story. Great Book well worth the credit.

A well told story about Maggie’s life. It starts in her 17th year and tells an honest and truthful story from there. From true loves, bad love, lost loves and love that was never meant to be. When I first started reading Maggie I didn’t know it was an autobiography it read like a novel and got a great novel at that. The narrator Melinda Joy did such great accents I thought she too was wonderful. This is well worth the credit or the price you pay. It is a total and complete read from longing to love to lost it’s all in this book. I definitely recommend this book to those who like reading about life in the past, those who love history, romance books and historical novels and family drama it’s all in this book. So if you and your genres fall under these options by this book. Again I loved it!!!

Wonderful!

I do not normally listen to biographies, but I am glad that I agreed to this one. The author did an excellent job in weaving this true story in such a manner that you forget that it IS a biography. At the end of the 19th century, teenage Maggie Perry is eager to move into adulthood, get married and start her own family. Being one of a dozen children in the Perry household, it's no wonder that Maggie wants to move out. Of course, at that time, women had limited options in providing for themselves so Maggie focused on marriage to a reasonably wealthy farmer. Over several decades, Maggie suffered the loss of her mother and her firstborn child. Survived through an abusive marriage and the loss of custody of her two eldest children; another couple of abusive marriages, and the loss of her eldest sister as well as her daughter. Through it all, this incredible woman proved that she was a survivor. Maggie's faith as a Christian Scientist is mentioned, but it is tastefully done and does not overpower her story. Again, this book is well written and quite captivating and I highly recommend.
