Sweet Friendship Shattered By What?

I read 8 Weeks (book one) in this series quite a while ago and enjoyed it immensely. I didn't realize that there were seven books in the series until I had the opportunity to *listen to this book in exchange for a review.

Book 5 in the series chronicles the lives of Craig and Gwendolyn from the time they are 10 years old to present day (their 20th year.)

Craig and Gwen went from best friends who shared everything to people who barely spoke due to a wall Gwen has put up. After constantly trying to get her to break down that wall with no luck, Craig continues to focus on his baseball career. That dream is met when he gets to play college ball for an NCAA team.

Gwendolyn throws herself into photography and keeps the reason for the wall is to herself. Not even her closest friends or family know why her feelings have changed for Craig. Or have they?

This has the feel of a young adult romance in everything but the mature themes and language. I do not usually care for young adult books but this series (or the two books I've listened to) are an exception. There is too much in mature scenes and language to remove them and call it young adult – it would also kill the story line.

I look forward to listening to the other books in the series!

Great as a Stand-Alone or in the Series

I have listened to this book and one other in the series and was pleased to find that I didn't have to know the stories that came before or after. I have added one or two more from the series where I can get on sale, and added the remaining books to my wishlist. The characters and stories have peeked my interest and I want more.

Simple and short. The entire premise wasn't realistic. A friendship that strong would have worked through any problem, especially when the families were close and they shared rides home from school. I couldn't buy it.

But it was well written and easy to listen to. Narration was good. A HEA story.

Recommended

A well told story covering the 10 years Gwen & Craig have known each other using flashbacks. These two belong together yet situations can and do block their way. It takes courage and strength to face them and share them with each other.

A sweet, heartwarming read!

This is such a sweet, heartwarming read!! I just love a good friends to lovers story!! This shows the ups and downs of the friendship between Craig and Gwen in time period of 10 years. They eventually reveal that they have romantic feelings for each other. This is my first read by Bethany and I look forward to checking out the rest of this series. This can be read as a standalone however.
I enjoyed the narrator. She did an awesome job at differentiating between the male and female roles.
