From the sumptuous private drawing rooms of 18th-century Paris to the decadent estates and chateaus of the French countryside, La Marquise de Merteuil and Le Vicomte de Valmont hatch a long-distance plan of vengeance and seduction.

Valmont is determined to conquer the famously pious Madame de Tourvel, whose husband is abroad on business. However, Merteuil has other plans. She enlists his involvement in the seduction of a young convent girl, Cécile Volanges, the wife-to-be of the Marquise's former lover. But as they race toward the culmination of their plans, events start to spiral out of control and they realise that they might not be as in control of their hearts as once they thought.

Perfect in all aspects!

I have read this book and have seen the film many times. Both were exceptionally good. I thought that an audible production would not come near either of those. I was wrong! Three cheers to the cast of this audio production! Impeccable in every aspects! *****

Not great source material for an audible book

The voice actors were fantastic and if the source material had matched their skill, I would have given it a 5 overall. Unfortunately, the combination of using the play instead of the book and then excerpting that material made it difficult to follow. Not even the wonderful talents of the actors could salvage this recording. The

Great surprise

I never would have read/listened to this kind of romance looking book but I got it for free and since it was a classic and only 2 hours long, I gave it a go.

What a great surprise! Not a sappy love story, but a dark tale with manipulative main characters in cahoots. I think the negative reviews here are the people who, like me, saw the cover and were expecting a romance novel. None of that.

The acting was superb and made me want to find more audiobooks by the same performers.

Fantastic Performance and Writing

This is better than a movie because the writing us so crisp and precise, and the performances so well rendered with layers of depth, wit, and emotion. It’s a joy to listen to.

Oh what a tangled web we weave

A twisted classic that has been done so many different ways. This was a well performed, condensed, dramatization of a tangled web of deceit between a man and a woman. The language is beautiful and the tale is sad.
