No words do this justice

A moving masterpiece. Every one needs to hear this story. Let us not forget this history.

Selma Blair did it justice.

Not the best WWII account I have come across but a fun read. Actually, this was not supposed to be much about WWII and if you dig in with that expectation you are gonna like it. This book familiarizes us with the many emotions and life experiences a young girl goes through. Adding the fact that she was alive during the world's worst episode just gives her emotions a different edge. I am glad how they preserved the actual diary and didn't try to tweak the raw emotions which are documented. I am also marveled by the fact how smart Anne was and she understood her circumstances so well.

A teenager's take on history and her surroundings

Selma Blair's reading really brings out the ordinary teenager behind the brilliant writer that Anne truly was at a shockingly young age. At first, her tone seems wrong - too "teen-aged girl" and not enough "witness to history". But within a few diary entries I felt that this was the perfect way to perform the diary. Anne was unusually bright and talented but otherwise a regular kid coming into her own in genuinely hellish circumstances. Blair's delivery throws Anne's previous existence as a somewhat privileged girl, the child of successful and educated parents, into contrast with the upheaval of her life and the world around her into the depths of depraved cruelty. Her smart, funny, difficult way is shown for what is both ordinary and extraordinary about it. I don't think anyone needs telling that this is a great book - important and also a good read. But Selma Blair's reading is perfect. She nailed it.

Would you listen to Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl again? Why?

This is an amazing book. I felt compelled to read the book because it's a classic, but it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable reads (despite the horrible topic) of any in my library.

What does Selma Blair bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This is my first review although probably the 50th or so book I've listened to. Selma Blair makes the story come to life. She uses a little bit of a slow whine that's believable for a teen discussing her parents and angst of teen love. So good.
