Acerca de esta escucha

Number one New York Times best seller

In her latest book, Brené Brown writes, “If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and to be stewards of the stories that we hear. This is the framework for meaningful connection.”

In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through 87 of the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills and an actionable framework for meaningful connection, she gives us the language and tools to access a universe of new choices and second chances - a universe where we can share and steward the stories of our bravest and most heartbreaking moments with one another in a way that builds connection.

Over the past two decades, Brown’s extensive research into the experiences that make us who we are has shaped the cultural conversation and helped define what it means to be courageous with our lives. Atlas of the Heart draws on this research, as well as on Brown’s singular skills as a storyteller, to show us how accurately naming an experience doesn’t give the experience more power, it gives us the power of understanding, meaning, and choice.

Brown shares, “I want this book to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart and the right maps, we can travel anywhere and never fear losing ourselves.”

Editor's Pick

A wry portrait of a decade hanging in the balance
Born in the latter half of the 1990s, I’m what you might call a ''cusp'' millennial, a generational designation that feels oddly out of time. I can’t always relate to the experiences of slightly older peers, and yet I often feel ancient and out of touch among Gen Z. I’m old enough to remember Blockbuster, the Spice Girls, and the sputter of dial-up, but a bit too young to recall the oddity of Crystal Pepsi, not to mention anything regarding politics or economics. So, whether you’re a fellow cusper in need of a history lesson or you’re just seeking a new perspective on a moment in time, Chuck Klosterman’s smart new collection The Nineties is a must-listen. In his signature style—a near-scholarly analysis of pop culture and society punctuated by moments of sly, self-aware humor, incisive commentary, and probing introspection—Klosterman unpacks everything from Bush and Clinton to Garth Brooks to Biosphere 2, ruminating on the impact of each along the way. Shunning simple rosy retrospection, Klosterman instead offers a fresh, fascinating take on a time oft-reminisced but seldom reckoned with. —Alanna M., Audible Editor

Librarian-Approved

As a college librarian that teaches information literacy, I am so grateful to Brené Brown for citing where she’s getting her information. In a world of misinformation and disinformation, I applaud and am grateful to her weaving in her storytelling with showing her references. Oh, and teaching me to name my feelings and shit. Love you, Brené.

The etymology of emotion is laid out with perfect grace and detail. I finally have the words…

Brené Brown has been a driving force for positive change in my life since 2014. I would dare to say she is THE conversation starter/leader for the catalytic power of vulnerability, shame, and connection in the lives of diverse, yet uniquely similar, humans worldwide. I will be forever grateful for the words to express things I have longed to say for years. These words have validated my feelings and brought meaning to confusing situations and emotions, and best of all — they help me make sense of myself and my relationships. I highly recommend this book

Enjoyably self confronting master piece

I wish it was an international requirement for every household to have a copy of this book. It helps to re-educate myself and encourage others to do the same to better understand oneself and our behaviors towards each other. A true guide to re-define and dissect terminology regarding emotions and feelings, that will help to make each encounter and interaction with oneself and others more meaningful, effective, and purposeful.
It is so much more engaging when the author narrates his/her own story. Thanks for sharing you!

Best Audible Presentation Yet

I completely agree with everyone else who has commented on the excellent reading of this book. Having listened to many audiobooks, I find that Dr. Brown's presentation is uniquely engaging, perhaps in part because she is a self-proclaimed avid audiobook listener.
Bandhu, if you see this comment, you asked about the illustrations...go to your Audible library and there should be a "View PDF" link on the right side of the book description, just below "Listen Now". The PDF is well worth downloading; the images beautifully illustrate the points.
I can't wait to "backtrack" and listen to Brené Brown's other works.

Love This Work!

I personally find the author’s narration a tad annoying- over use of the word “like,” as an example. A wonderful work and my commentary is simply personal. I look beyond this to the content which is excellent. Thank you for also including the full color illustration.

Wow

Wow wow amazing. Will be reading again. Vulnerable- truthful & truth. I wasn’t ready for the knowledge and research of Bene Browns voice to end. I love the excerpts she gives to other writers

Good book. Although too political and too repetitive.

I wish I had bough the hard copy and actually read it myself. I recommend doing that if you are interested in this book.

Usually, I love when the Author narrates their own work, it can feel like a live book reading or it can give you a better insight to the tone of the intended passage. In this case, it was not pleasant. I don’t know how verbatim it was from the book but she talks about her opinions on COVID and politics too much.
Also, I don’t know how long it would have taken the average reader to read this book, but she drags it out by adding in a bunch of stories that aren’t in the book and re-reading passages that she thinks are important.
Every few minutes she is saying “let me read that again for you” or “I’m going to read that passage again”. I got very frustrated with it. I will rewind and listen to something again if I feel I didn’t fully grasp a concept. I’m also a big fan of listening to books multiple times to see if I missed something. I don’t need the author deciding what passages I didn’t absorb fully and what passages are most powerful to a specific reader.
I will opt out of listening to any more audio books narrated by Brené Brown.

That being said, I did like this book and will read more of her work.

Worth the wait for Audible release!

As always, Brene Brown’s work teaches and inspires a deeper understanding of the self and, therefore, others. She never fails to take the concepts that I couldn’t find the words to describe and break them down with such simplicity. I almost broke down and bought the physical book when the audible release got pushed from November to February, but hearing her as the narrator, made it worth the wait. I will listen to it MANY more times and probably purchase the book, as well, like I do with many of my favorites.
