Publisher's summary

At the Helm: The Young Widow’s Journey from Struggle to Strength is a balance between stories of real-life widows, research, and practicality. It focuses on what the young widow in particular worries about, feels, and does after the death of her partner. Within this audiobook, you will find stories that you will relate to and strategies to help you heal and feel whole again. The major focus of the audiobook is the idea that wisdom and growth can emerge from struggle, sadness, and the loss of a spouse. Ultimately, this audiobook can be used as a tool to help you flourish.

Within the stories, you will hear other widows’ views about the hard parts of life after loss, and what they do to make themselves feel more centered and complete. You'll hear widows talk about topics such as:

  • What to do with a loved one’s belongings after they pass
  • How to make holidays tolerable (and maybe even joyful)
  • Ideas for helping children survive and thrive after the loss of a parent

An Emotional and Encouraging Listen

I am not a widow. I read this book for other reasons and am so glad I did. The author does a wonderful job of sharing her incredibly painful experience in a way that is not too much to bear and leaves the reader with a vision of a path forward and hope for brighter days to come. She offers ideas and advice from her own experience and from other young widows she interviewed for the book. While I recognize that being a young widow is a unique experience of its own, I could relate to many parts of this book because I have lost a loved one very close to me. I also learned how I could be supportive if a friend faces widowhood in the future. The narration is clear and easy to listen to. Knowing it is the author speaking made me feel as if I was listening to a friend tell me her story. Highly recommended for young widows, especially ones with children.
