Publisher's Summary

Miss Marple, Agatha Christie’s deceptively mild spinster sleuth, is being treated to a few days’ holiday by her niece, staying at Bertram’s Hotel, a dignified, unostentatious establishment tucked away in a back street of busy Mayfair.

Here is a place where sedate upper class ladies, retired military gentlemen and the higher echelons of the clergy can indulge in the comforts of a bygone age. But Miss Marple begins to feel uneasy. Something sinister lurks beneath the polished veneer. Why are so many major crimes associated in some way with the hotel or somehow implicate eminently respectable people staying there?

June Whitfield stars as Miss Marple in this BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of a classic brain-teaser from the Queen of Crime.

Excellent 🌻🌻🌻

a wonderful interpretation of a Christie classic . Miss Marple remains the world's most unlikely and terrifyingly unconventional detective.

Wonderful retelling

Perfect casting.
Love June Whitfield as Miss Marple.
The rewriting for audiobook format was on-point.

I also love the classical music and that they didn't add any scary or thrilling ones so it's very pleasant to listen to.

Worth a re-listen, and I typically don't.

The only BBC Agatha Christie story I didn't like!

I have loved all the BBC dramatizations of Agatha Christie stories I've heard... until this one. The actors and production quality were as normal, but I just could NOT get enthused by the story. I listened all the way to the end, but it was never actually enjoyable. Since it was rather an expensive title (1 credit or over $10 for only 2 hrs and 20 min), I will probably be returning this and getting the full-length version just to double check that it's the story that failed to amuse and not the adaptation.

Good adaptation

Stayed true to the original plot, unlike the ITV production with Geraldine McEwan.

Fast paced, with good voice acting. I only wish it had lasted longer!

Love, Love, Love It!

I fell in love with this story when I watched it on TV. Then I heard the real version narrated by Ms Whitfield, and I fell in love all over again! I give the story and performance a five star review.

Another great BBC radio production

I really enjoy the BBC radio collection of A. Christie. June Whitfield is excellent as the voice of Miss Marple. Although Miss Marple is not at the center of this story line, I still really enjoyed the mystery and the background noises.

I Adore A Story Set In A Hotel!

What did you like most about At Bertram's Hotel (Dramatised)?

I enjoyed the setting the most and that it was a dramatization. I love when a book is set somewhere like a hotel, especially if it is an old hotel . The description was wonderful and very easy to picture it as the author saw it. I love listening to dramatization , it brings all the characters and story to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I did not have a favourite , I enjoyed them all ! Agatha Christie writes interesting characters so you can't help loving each one of them, faults and all!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I enjoyed Miss Marple's arrival at the hotel, hearing the description of what the hotel was like and the other guests that were staying there .

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wanted to go straight back to the beginning and read it all over again. It made me smile.

Any additional comments?

Go get it folks!

Poor plot

I chose this, hoping for the atmosphere of a luxury hotel in a bygone era. There was some, but not enough that I would listen again.
The plot is pretty awful - childish in its ending. The reliance on coincidence, the unlikely relationships of the characters to each other and a comic escape make for an unsatisfactory conclusion.

LOVE 💕 IT WONDERFUL ENTERTAINMENT

Agatha Christie at her best wrote wonderful comic staged plots, nothing to do with reality and around the world we still love her work. Christie is all about ‘Escapism’ nothing to do with day to day world. she is all about curling up on a dark winters day with a good old drink as you slip away into ‘Agatha Christie Land’ where you know as you enter unrealism, no matter how gruesome the plot is, at the end, all is well and wonderful again as we slip back into real life.
