Prof Choy’s analysis gives the reader an understanding of how important history is to understanding how today’s problems and policies evolved and can potentially be addressed as we strive for a better society.
I highly recommend it as we address issues of racial justice and equity.

Strong, Well-Researched and Engaging

As a middle school teacher, I found this text informative, engaging and appropriate for me to excerpt for my class. Excellent, engaging text!

Some views haven't changed

I noticed (and really liked) an emphasis on tying historical events and people in this book with the present.
It made me come to the conclusion that you can write laws and make changes that on the surface should decrease racism, drive a want to have a complete history of the United States but that's simply not so.
It's sad to realize that currently, history is written by those who hold power and that mentality will drive any effort to keep U.S. history in one color and one narrative.
We can do better and should. For all of our children.

A valuable history pertinent to our times

I really appreciated the many stories shared in this book. Whatever the country of origin, Asian Americans have had challenges in their assimilation due to racist perceptions that have been perpetuated in news media, historical records ( and lack thereof) as well as cinema. One comes away from this reading appreciating the contributions made by Asian Americans and the importance of making certain their stories are heard and known.

Great book

This book has given me historical context of the Asian American from different view points! Highly recommend this book - I’ve listen to this book a countless of times now.
