Call the hotline if these symptoms come on suddenly!

Turns out Charlie Bennet was all of those things except the last. Don't let the name fool you, Charlie was all woman, and she wanted nothing to do with the ash...until the day she found out she was one.

It all started when infected bats bit a small group of humans and created what are now called vampires. Then, the male vampires knocked up some female humans, and the result was a gorgeous race of all male ash - superhuman freaks that had looks to kill.

Charlie is the first female ash, aka unicorn of the Hive - the gated compound in Portland that the humans have designated to isolate vampires and ash from society.

Problem? The Hive is full, and only a select few will be allowed to live there. To live at all, really. If Charlie wants to earn the right to become a citizen of the Hive, she will have to survive the culling - a series of fights to the death. And guess what? Just because she's a girl doesn't mean she'll get special treatment.

Good thing there's Ryder, the mysterious lead ash enforcer, who seems to always have her back. But when secrets bubble to the surface, it will take more than one guy to save her.

Not bad... If I was 16

This book wasn't for me. I love paranormal fantasy, however, I just cannot relate to a character who is 20 years old and talks like she is 15. I wish I had known that the main character was so young as this would have hinted at the age-group this book was intended for. Unfortunately, I just can't get on board with someone who talks like she texts and has survival instincts comparable to those of a drunk lemur.

The narrator was great, but unfortunately the story just wasn't for me.

Compelling, exciting, and surprisingly brutal.

When I caught the flu and had to stay in bed all day, I spent my waking hours listening to ASH. Vampire hybrids who must fight to the death to survive. Sexy commando type love interests. Best Friends Forever. What's not to love? I will be waiting for the sequel.

For young readers...

This book is more in line with young adult, teen angst than an adult story. It has a interesting premise but how the character's talk and how Charlie thinks makes me want to tear my hair out. At one point they actually use the word "tot's" and when Ryder asks her out she responds " yes, a million times yes". I'm sorry at the age of 37 I don't want to read about a child that can't speak or think as an adult even though she is supposedly 21, maybe I'm lucky and know older acting 20 something year old people but I don't hear them talk like this. very annoying. I don't mind teen story's as long as it is shown as such , hunger games being a prime example. that was a wonderful book. Okay sorry I'm off my rant now. The book had promise, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. It lacked something. maturity would be my guess.

Loved the audio version!

Having read everything from both authors. I fell in love with this story too. As I am an OTR Driver I'm always looking for audio books. I really love this Narrator. She had done other books by these two and I think really does a great job with the characters. Loved It!

great read ,

The story is a great take on the vampire genre. It was equal parts comical, heartwarming, and action packed. The narrator is extremely entertaining and brings an already great story to life.

JUST FINISHED THE FIRST... I NEED THE SECOND!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

I just finished the first book on my run at lunch today. I was so pissed when it ended. I knew that they haven't done the second book yet, but I was still angry. (In a great way though) Meaning this book was awesome!

The narrator was wonderful. She did a great job playing the main character "Charlie". I really loved every character. I want to be like charlie!

Leia and Jaymin did such a great job with this book. There was detail, character development, and action. If your looking for something that will keep you hooked, I HIGHLY recommend this book! I want MORE! Also, it made my runs so awesome. Girl power, kicking butt. Loved every minute of it.

Great job with this!

We'll see

I think I would like these characters to mature a bit. For example she uses a lot of curse words but it's like someone that is trying to curse as opposed to someone that just does it everyday.

More young than adult. Meh

Divergent, Hunger Games and vampires all in one!

If you could sum up Ash in three words, what would they be?

Great narrator. Story line was exciting and fun. If you liked Divergent and the Hunger Games, you will love this book. The main character is a strong female that kicks ass and has a great sense of humor. Her supporting characters are funny too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Main character's male roommate.

Which character – as performed by Dara Rosenberg – was your favorite?

Main female character

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Excitement. I loved the twists and turns and history of the characters that gets revealed.

Any additional comments?

Dara Rosenberg is a great narrator.
