Publisher's Summary

In a world similar to our own 17th century, one man's kindness lifts a poor, homeless boy from the dirt and sets him on an unlikely path of adventure.

An average man would use a silver coin to buy food for a week.

An extraordinary boy can use that same coin to build an empire.

great book!!!

Good story and narration!

A homeless boy is given a silver coin, and the world begins to change. Alley Lords, Doctors, Princes, and even Kings lives will be affected by a street urchin who would build an empire. What could you possibly do with a silver coin and a bit of cunning?

Steve does a great job with the narration!

I really enjoyed this book! I can't wait for the next installment of the series!

Knocks it out of the park!

Spoiler: I love all of Terry's books. Having said that, I want to say that Ascension is my favorite of them all.

I read this book some time ago, but had to snap it up as soon as I found it was available on audio.

Leo, our hero, is a great character. He's always two steps ahead of everyone, including me as the reader.

No spoilers from me, except to say, I loved it.

A Tale With A Twist

I received a free copy of this audiobook and in exchange promised to give an honest review.
An undercurrent of mystery flows through this coming of age story. Leo, the penniless and grateful boy is not who he seems to be. He has a purpose that is not fully revealed in this first book of the 'Blight Series'. After a rough life in the streets, he brings his friends, whom he met along the way, on his journey to success. Unfortunately, he has also made a few enemies.
The narration was excellent and his voice was varied.

An interesting listen

I was provided a free copy for an honest review.

This book is full of twists and turns the whole way though and was a very enjoyable ride. The author does a good job of showing the rise of the main character from a beggar to much, much more while still maintaining an interesting and compelling main character. The narration is very good and I have no real complaints about it. I am looking forward to book 2 and will definitely listen to it.

A very Terry Schott style story

Having read or listened to all of the author’s other works, I had a certain feeling about where this was headed. Even so, along the way I found myself engrossed in this world, wanting to understand more of what the heck was going on. As a first book in a series, that seems like a reasonable thing to do to a reader.
As to the narrator, I greatly enjoyed Steve Campbell’s reading and performance. I’m curious to see where we find ourselves in the next book.

Great Fantasy Novel

Ascension Blight Book one is a very entertaining story filled with interesting and likeable characters. The main character a young 'homeless' boy named Leo is given a silver coin by a mysterious man, with that coin he begins to build his empire. The story follows the rise of Leo and his friends and the adventures that he has. Leo is a very smart, tough and likeable character and is a force of change in this world. Towards then end of the book you get a peek at what is really going on and a bit of sci fi where none was really expected. I think future installments in the series will really delve into some of the mysteries more and broaden the story and let you find out what is really going on.

The narration by Steve Campbell was great, I have heard many books by him and he never disappoints. I would definitely recommend this book, it has a very interesting story and the characters are done very well.

Wow, the story is not really the true story

This is the first book i have read/listened to by this author and am amazed. I love the intrigue. The publisher’s summary leaves out the underlying direction of this story. From the beginning I got a sense there was more to Leo than just homeless street urchin given a second chance. There is an important, rarely mentioned character who interacts with almost no one else in the story yet is an integral part of the overall story thread. There is a lot more to Leo’s tale than seen on the surface and the journey to hearing glimpses about it was engrossing and I found myself constantly waiting for the next tidbit to shed light.
I cannot wait to hear the second book. I listened to 400 books in last 12 months, and this is one of the books that tops my list for underlying story twists/threads.

This is the second book I have listened to by this narrator ( Steve Campbell ) and I would definitely listen to another. He does well making the book sound like your listening to a movie. Each character Is discernible. I like the personality he imparts on Leo. I mean this as a compliment .. his voice and style reminds me of the narrator Luke Daniels.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

OK

I enjoyed listening to this book...don't get me wrong but there were so many missing links, like what exactly is this book about? is is a sequel to Game is Life? who is Leo? how and why was he left on the streets when he was a child? how does he and his wife first fall in love? how does his friendship grow with the prince? This seems like an empire building story but most of that was skipped. At the end of the book...I am confused.
