Publisher's Summary

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family.

He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from 40 years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves

    "Excellent story line"

I purchased this and after hearing about it shortly after the books were published. It's a brilliant book, modern, diverse, well written and brilliantly narrated. Excellent! I would only ward off those that have weak stomachs as some parts are quite graphic!

"Did I get the same book?"

I got this after reading the reviews on the site, I have suffered through the first half and now decided not to waste any more time on this. I found the narration flat, akin to sitting through a boring lecture given by a bored professor. The story jumps around - I don't find that too much of a problem, but the author describes everything down to the last detail and there is no action.
I have listened to 'Les Miserables' unabridged which rambles on, and found that much more absorbing than this.
This is not my type of book at all and I will avoid this author and narrator in the future.
I recommend people listen to the preview and bear in mind that the whole book sounds the same.

    "Superb book well narrated."

A superb investigative novel excellently narrated by Saul Reichlin. The narrative to action balance is spot on and the main characters are well developed. Reichlin's narration is just right for a title of this type and I did not hesitate to order the two follow up audio novels once this one was completed. Well recommended.

"Hard work at the start, but hooked in no time."

Like most of the other reviews state, it's tough at the beginning. It seems to flit about and I did wonder whether I'd have been best to read it in print, thinking if the words had been in front of me I might have been more able to keep track of all the changes. My worry soon went once I had got to grips with the story and style of writing.

I, like many others, was hooked and couldn't wait to listen again. It's very good, excellent plot, well written and very well read.

When it was over I felt a mixture of pleasure (firstly at finishing it, secondly at having enjoyed it so) and of exhaustion. Perhaps this is a good thing.

All in all, excellent. Would recommend.

    "Lives up to the hype!"

Having heard all the glowing reviews of this book (and the two sequels) I thought it couldn't possibly be that good, could it? Well, the answer is a resounding yes.

The writing is of the highest quality - detailed but not full of waffle, and brilliantly paced. A real slow burner, richly rewarding and highly addictive (which is a problem when trying to relax in the evening). However, some of the details of the plot (which I will not ruin) are a little disturbing, but this feels natural to the overall story and not put in for shock value.

A special mention for the wonderful narration - very easy on the ear, clearly distinguised characters and no struggling with the complicated relationships (not to mention the place names). Give this man an Audible Oscar!

I am eargerly awaiting the next in the trilogy - The Girl Who Played With Fire - here's hoping it will be just as wonderful and fully deserving of a five star rating.

    "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

An immensely enjoyable audio book. The narration by Saul Reichlin was superb and bought the story to life exquisitely. I can recommend this book as a fine listen.

    "A compelling story cleverly executed"

Initially I thought I had made a poor choice but by chapter 3 I was becoming engrossed in the story line. I thouroughly enjoyed the switching between main characters and the twists and turns they took, yet the story was not fragmented because of this and you never knew what was going to happen next. Its Graphic in places which some may find too much, however I think this added to the raw power of the story. The narrator I found easy to listen to and it did not distract me from content as others have. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and found it really hard to put down.

    "Am I missing something?"

Im sorry, I have really tried my best to get into this book but it is far too drawn out, far too dull and there is far too much detail boringly spelt out.
I understood that from other reviews it may take a while to get into the story, that it is not instant.. but 4hrs and 40 mins later and I have had to delete it off my ipod!
It really does not get going and Im afraid that if a story has taken over 4hrs to even try to grip my imagination then I have lost all interest in it.
I accept I am obviously in the minority with my opinion, but be prepared to be bored!!
