A Soldier & His Horse

This is a fictional Civil War story about a young cavalryman, Arthur and his horse, Lightning. Graduating from West Point in 1861, Arthur is assigned to a cavalry unit in Washington D.C. Because his fiancé fears that Lightning will be confiscated by the Confederate army, she asks Arthur to take Lightning with him. She does this knowing that as Arthur leaves his home state of Tennessee, he has made the decision to remain loyal to the Union army. Horse and rider serve together in several battles and Arthur's love and respect for his courageous horse Lightning only grows as they confront together the challenges of war.
