Publisher's Summary

Lucinda Beckwith Long, the mayor of Athena, has donated a set of Civil War-era diaries to the archives of Athena College. The mayor would like Charlie to preserve and to substantiate them as a part of the Long family legacy - something that could benefit her son Beck as he prepares to campaign for the state senate.

Beck's biggest rival is Jasper Singletary, and their families have been bitter enemies since the Civil War. He'd like to get a look at the diaries in an attempt to expose the Long family's past sins. Meanwhile, a history professor at the college is also determined to get her hands on the books in a last-ditch bid for tenure. Now Charlie is left with a catalog of questions. The diaries seem worth killing for, and one thing is certain: Charlie will need to be careful, because the more he reads, the closer he could be coming to his final chapter...

Couldn't Get Into the Plot

I've listened to 1-5 in the series and have enjoyed the stories and characters. However, this one just didn't keep my interest. I haven't given up on the series though and I will begin listening to the next one today.

ALL ABOUT ARCHIVE'S CHARLEY AND DIESEL

I LOVE these stories!!! I believe this one had me on the edge of my seat more than the others!! Couldn't put it down! I like the family atmosphere in other books. Was exciting to have Charley so involved with the history of two family's to help solve the crime.
Thank you for the beautiful presentation of the morals Charley, his family and friends convey. Your books I can share with my family that teach the goodness in people. Of course we all love Diesel and the bond he and Charley share. A cat we would all love to have and know!!
Erin Bennett is so good at making us feel the story.

Another Solid Fun Entry

A good cozy entry that focuses on some diaries that were donated to the university and may hold information that some people are after. Just a really nice entry for a lazy day.

I have to agree about the narration. The lead character is male and this narrator cannot perform male voices well. Charlie sounds effeminate. It is jarring sometimes. If I stop and then resume play later, it takes me a minute to figure out if it’s Charlie or a female character talking. Just like people complain when a male reads a book in which the main character is female, it should be ok to complain when a female reads a book in which the main character is male.

fun and easy reading.

I had to get used to the reader. I wasn't prepared for the female voice so a bit disappointed at first but as the story went along the reading seemed to flow a little easier.
