Publisher's Summary

The K Team is back in the second installment in this spinoff series from best-selling author David Rosenfelt's beloved Andy Carpenter mysteries.

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, a German shepherd named Simon Garfunkel, are recently retired police officers turned private investigators. Along with fellow former cop Laurie Collins and her investigating partner, Marcus, they call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon.

The K Team’s latest case - a recent unsolved murder - gives Corey a chance to solve "the one that got away". Corey knew the murder victim from his time on the force, when he was unable to protect her in a domestic dispute. Now, he is convinced the same abusive boyfriend is responsible for her murder. With some help from Laurie’s lawyer husband, Andy Carpenter, the K Team is determined to prove what the police could not, no matter the cost. What they uncover is much more sinister than they could have imagined.

Known for his dog-loving stories and addictive characters, best-selling mystery author David Rosenfelt presents Animal Instinct, the second installment in this engrossing new series about a dynamite investigative team and their canine partner.

Not Quite The Andy Carpenter Series but...

Good book and this series is getting better and better. Thought that it would never live up to the Andy Carpenter series but it is showing hopeful signs!

WOW

I always love David Rosenfelt's writing, but this is a bottom of the ninth, grand slam homerun to win the game. Suspenseful, and keeps you guessing right up to the last minute. I see award nominations.

The K Team is Back !

Cory, Simon, Laurie, and Marcus are solving crime again. David Rosenfelt gives us another great detective team mystery with Courtroom drama and a K9 hero. I recommend this fast paced novel. Enjoy

“K” udos for another K Team mystery

Love this series as well as the Andy Carpenter series. My only complaint, as usual, is that they are all way too short! I listen to the audio books and Fred Berman and Grover Gardner are awesome.

Just okay

I’m more a fan of Andy carpenter’s novels than these K-Team. For this new installment, the story was convoluted from beginning to end. Too many characters to remember all the names except for the main players. Who did what was very confusing. It feels like the story was rushed to a conclusion that was poorly conceived. The biggest issue I have occurs in both series. It has to do with Marcus. I’m noticing that more and more, he is reduced to a caricature or false stereotype of African-American people. This is highly offensive to me as a black woman. The writer assigns “grunts” and unintelligible words to Marcus’s character while the other white characters are lawyers, and police, with full, clear dialogues. I hope to convey this to the author directly.

Poor cousin of the Andy Carpenter stories.

Disappointing. Even though Carpenter is not a main character here this story paralleled the Carpenter stories instead of staking its own fresh story territory. And once you are used to Grover Gardner’s characterizations the versions you get hear just seem wrong. Admittedly Rosenfelt has a tough brief attempting to do a spin-off of his nearly two decades-old popular Carpenter series.

Great escape fiction

Half way between cozy mystery and hard boiled. It is smart, sassy and hard to put down. The main characters are so likable they are people I would like to actually know. This has been such a hard year that the novels by David Rosenfelt have provided hours of escape to a place where the good guys win.
