Literally gave me chills

I have read Agatha Christie in the past for school. This was the first I had read on my own, as an adult. The tale was gripping and kept me finding excuses to keep listening. And, at the end, I actually got chills when all was revealed. I have never experienced that with a story before. I will definitely be listening to more Agatha Christie!

Masterful Mystery, Fantastic Performance

Agatha Christie's acknowledged masterpiece. Written 80 years ago and never out of print, despite multiple title changes (read about the unfortunate first title on Wikipedia). An inspired reading by the magnificent Dan Stevens. Pulls you in and plunks you down squarely among the pigeons, one of whom may in fact be the cat.

I'm a mystery fan and an Anglophile, but have never been a particular fan of Christie's many books, most of whose plots I find to be way too contrived. I had never read "And Then There Were None" until this Audible release, which I chose mainly for the Stevens narration. Turns out it does indeed stand above the rest, with amazing atmosphere, artfully slow-building tension, and mesmerizing characterizations of the ten participants.

The plot (yes, a Christie contrivance) requires suspension of disbelief, but with writing and performance this good, that was easy. I was engrossed and enthralled.

Yes, you really never know what is going to happen next, or who could possibly be the bad guy.

Which character – as performed by Dan Stevens – was your favorite?

I really loved the judge, he was a brilliantly written character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have, I would have.

You will need to pay attention from the first word

STORY (mystery/thriller) - As the summary reveals, ten people are mysteriously invited to a small island. Once there, they are killed one by one, and the remaining guests must try to figure who the killer is and try to stay alive. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but there are ten main characters you must keep straight so be prepared to listen carefully. I usually listen to books in sessions varying from 15 minutes to 1 1/2 hours which are split up over several days. Sometimes I got a little confused who was who, but that was my own fault for breaking my listening time into such disjointed pieces.

PERFORMANCE - Very good job! Mr. Stevens gives distinguishable voices to most of the ten main characters in this story. It really helps keep straight who is who.

OVERALL - Recommended for anyone who likes murder mysteries -- male, female, young, old. There's obviously murder, but it's described very simply and isn't gross. No cursing, no sex.

P.S. I listened to an Audible freebie called Whodunnit?: Murder on Mystery Island, which is similar but not quite as good (and also kind of gross). Don't know if it's still free, but if you like this book you might try that one as well.

Phenomenal performance!

One of the best Agatha Christie books ever written, read by one of the best narrations I've heard. Dan Stevens portrayed the book's incredible suspense, along with creating wonderfully accurate, engaging voices for each of the 10 main characters. Wonderfully done!!

Wonderful story, wonderful narration

This is a classic story line and one of Agatha Christie's most famous, but I have never had a chance to enjoy it until now. Strangers all lured to an island house for a weekend, only to discover that they are all targeted for past misdeeds and are being picked off one by one by an unknown murderer. They face not only the fear of being murdered, but the paranoia when they realize that no one else is on the island, and so one of them is the murderer. Who to trust, and how to stay alive?

A fabulous story, not to be missed.
