Publisher's summary

Wil Wheaton returns to narrate volume two in the Battle for Forever series.

Alexander X and his friends have had stadiums collapse on them and ancient teachers follow them; they have driven cars through buildings and had entire streets blown up around them. They've been chased, beaten, drugged, and nearly sliced in two by falling sheets of glass. And that...was just on Saturday.

Now, they must do whatever it takes to escape Elam Khai and flee the country. As they search for answers and Alexander's father, they will meet new allies, be confronted by new foes, and uncover more details of the plot that would protect the future for the very few by destroying it for everyone else.

Humor, action, and history combine as Ancient Among Us propels us to the moment where everything changes.

Nothing about this will be simple or easy.

No Spoilers, but Wow!!

If you're reading this, you've probably listened to the first book in the series, Alexander X. This entry continues the action, has more really cool moments in history, and has the humor of the first. Vol. 2 also dives deeper into the characters and even gives us some new friends and foes. I heard Savio at Comic-Con talk about how he felt this was probably going to be the hardest book of the four to write because it's the second quarter of a football game. Knowing that going in, I was still surprised where we ended up at halftime. Wil Wheaton tops himself with his performance of the scenes between Phoebe and Alexander. Intimate moments are not what I normally think of when I think of him. No spoilers but it's going to be an annoying wait for the next book.

I really like this series!

I’ve seen a couple reviews that talked about the history lessons in this book. Some have said that they don’t like that. Personally I do! The whole storyline of this series, because of these people living more or less forever, requires a history lesson. I’ve seen it written that in order to make a fictional story believable it must be based in fact and I agree with that statement.

I believe Edward has done an amazing job with character development and building relationships between the characters. Listening to this book makes me want to put myself in the characters place and imagine how I would think or feel. That is not always the case when I listen to audiobooks.

And what about Wil Wheaton?! He has done an absolutely awesome job on narrating this series! A bad narrator can ruin a good book. As well a good narrator can make a bad book better. But when you get a great narrator with a great book, such as this book, you get a truly exceptional experience!

I can’t wait for book 3!!!

Okay, I Want To Live (Almost) Forever

love this series. I binged this book. I tend to like getting into how and why things happen, the details, and even in the fantastic parts of this book, it has the feeling of being well thought out and grounded in what we know. You're talking about people who are 100x as old as you and me, so it does take liberties, but it's fun even when it's not funny. Wil Wheaton is a fantastic fit. His voicing of the major characters is great. If you don't mind a touch of YA, this is a great book. I'm very curious to see where this series goes next. I'm still processing the ending.

wasn't so sure about the first book

after the first book I wasn't so sure, this book was so much better. the characters got way more detailed, the story was gripping, and you got a real sense of just how old and trained these ethereals are. So well done.

Great follow up

At first I was a little nervous that this was just going to be a lot of needless action. Then the action led to more secrets to being revealed and snippet of alternate history and all the things that make this series so wonderful. Will Wheaton is a perfect narrator. I love the story and can’t wait to the next in the series!

Fun and thrilling.

On a critical note, the main character's involvement in important historical moments and "chance encounters" with notable figures, is part of the story that, while interesting, is unbelievable even in context.

I Love it When a Sequel is Even Better

Fast paced and thought provoking don't always go together but they do in this story. I write reviews for about one in ten books I listen to. This one deserves a listen but if you read the first novel in the series you already know that.

VERY DISAPPOINTING....

Going to have send this one back...it only took a couple of days to get through but unlike the first book it gets quite repetitive and to be quite honest boring...
Will WHEATON does his best...
Doubt I will purchase book 3 , unless the reviews are outstanding....

Building to something, frustrating at times

great narration which really made the story come to life. Frustrating how characters don't answer question or share their info. While I understand it is a plot contrivance it is not believable and very frustrating. If I hear 'you need to ask Marcus' once more I think I will scream. Otherwise quite enjoyable
