Publisher's Summary

Blackmail, double dealing and dubious secret organizations. Solving one problem one is doable for the Adept Solutions crew, but dealing with all three will be a challenge.

Someone is blackmailing three of the most powerful citizens in Tropolis: the mayor, a master vampire, and a ruthless crime boss, and all three have hired the private detective agency to find the perpetrator.

Unfortunately JB's investigative team are not at full strength. Jason is in thrall to Zhanna, the faerie, Nikki's worried about her new husband cheating on her, and JB's father is dying. He's also distracted by his new relationship with Gemma, the fourth member of the group. Added to the mix, two secret organizations, with conflicting agendas, have surfaced in the city. Can the team put their personal difficulties aside, track down the blackmailer, and outwit their rivals before their clients' secrets are revealed?

If you like cozy mysteries interwoven with entertaining doses of magic and humor, then you’ll love Teagan Kearney’s urban fantasy novella, Ancestral Secrets, book 3 in the Adept Solutions series.

Fun Paranormal mystery

This was a fun story. The blackmail case the P.I. Firm is hired to solve is interesting. Each person and paranormal character has a job that is suited to their own talents. Their personality quirks, especially the fairy’s bring humor to the story. There was quite a bit going on with the characters personal lives as well as the P.I. Case. I haven’t read the first two books in the series but I was able understand and follow the world the author has created easily. I do think it made it a little harder for me to form attachments to the characters but before I was halfway through I was invested.
The reader was very good, she gave different voices for each character. She handled the humor and the action equally well.

Love the fairy

This is the third book I’ve read/listened to by this author. All have been in this series. I’m getting into each one more than the last. The interplay between the main characters is entertaining. These stories are each a complete tale since the team has a different job to do in each book. If you’re looking for relaxing P.I. story then this is it.

This is the third book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Elizabeth Lagelee ) and I would listen to another. She does the character voices well and brings out the lighthearted, jovial side of the story.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

What a difference a narrator can make

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

What a difference a narrator can make. This was another installment in what has been a solid urban fantasy, PI series. The narration, though, is more engaging and dynamic to listen to. All in all, this made for a great listening experience and 4 hours of entertainment.

Pleasant Mystery in a Living Urban Fantasy World

I've always had a soft spot for urban fantasy, but generally along the lines of a Dresden Files/Daniel Faust perspective with the protagonist perpetually needling the fantastic around them. This book was a pleasant change of pace into a cozy mystery where the characters exist within a well thought out world and work cases within their niche while interacting with the rest of their fantastical ecosystem as well as the normal world.

This particular case was definitely interesting as important people from across the spectrum of fantasy creatures were involved in a ransom case, which left the diverse members of the PI-esque firm opportunities to do what they do best, and in some cases overstep bounds and improve as a group.

The author also manages to include details about the lives of her characters outside the work place, with familial and romantic relationships but not focusing on those to the detriment of the story. It definitely feels like a well thought out universe to which I could easily return in the future.

Narration was pleasant as well, the narrator doing a good job of presenting the different characters and unique traits of their particular kind.

Love It!!!

Once again Teagan Kearney takes us on an awesome adventure full of twists, fun and a bit of romance! I love this series! The characters are well developed, the plot well written and the narration is spot on! The narration for this book is the best yet. Apryl Renee West does an excellent job all around with this story! I'm hoping that JB and his crew will return in another book to take us on more adventures! If you haven't checked out this series then you are truly missing out!

Another awesome book

I received a free copy from the author at my request opinions are my own. I am still totally in love with this series. JB and his team are back again despite some major changes going on in his team. Jason is dealing with a strong connection to the fairy that ascend him. Nikki is thinking her husband is already cheating. But, there’s a lot at stake when the team gets multiple cases leading to one group that’s blackmailing some of the biggest citizens and it’s up to JB and them to find out who before the whole city might suffer some bad experiences. Great story as always.

Another Hit

This story was given to me via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This is a continuation of a series that captured my attention from the first book. The narrator added so much to the story. All of the characters were vital to the story and it would not have been complete without each one. So glad that Jason will get the help he needs. Grandpa was something else.

Keeps getting better

Great story to go with the first two. This book ends with the employees of Adept Solutions going under some major changes in their lives. The pace on this book was better than the previous ones and extended all the way to the end.

The best one yet!

I went from liking the first book a little, the 2nd was better, and the third is the best yet. I went on Amazon and it doesn't look like there are going to be any novellas for this series. Which was sad. The author left herself open for a great 4th book. Than she can sell 1&2 in a pack and at least 3 & $ in the next. I want to know what happens to Jason! And Nicky! She left plenty of story left so I Hope Teagan Kearney decides to pick back up with this book. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her books. This book had a different narrator. She was just as good as the other one, maybe even a LITTLE better. Come on Teagan, you know you got another story in ya!!

Another strong episode in the series

Before commenting on the book itself, what is going on with the horribly unwieldy title as it seems like some other fields have been randomly slapped into it unlike the first two in the series and all three books should be tagged as part of the same series so new readers can more easily find the others since they are all well worth a read or listen.

Now that is out of the way, this 3rd book in the series continues the development of the varied cast and their world as they deal with new problems and incidents that expand the scope of that world with new organisations being introduced that you suspect will have an even greater impact in future books.

In the previous book I found that the narrator had seemingly got more comfortable with the cast and added more to that book than the first one, so it might have been slightly worrying that there was a change in narrator with this one. However this was not an issue with this new narrator seeming comfortable with the cast right from the outset and managing to enhance the book quite nicely.

Overall, another quick and enjoyable episode in this series with a length and tone that would make it being well suited to being heard in a single sitting.
