Publisher's Summary

Everyone wants justice.

That's what Assistant DA Lulu Lightly tells me. "Cathedral City needs you to set things right," she says. "To rid this place of corruption, once and for all."

I'd like to rid Lulu Lightly of her clothes. And maybe her moral superiority. But mostly her clothes.

"I want you to fight the good fight with me," she says.

Hell, yeah. I'm always up for a fight.

"We should stand up and be the voice of the people," she says.

Sure, I hear voices. Sometimes I even listen to them.

"Figure out what's good for the City and put it first," she says.

Oh, honey...what's good for the City is bad for the people. Trust me, I know. I'm Case Reider - insane Alpha, nefarious inventor, and I understand this town better than anyone.

Cathedral City needs me all right. Just not the way you think. I'm not the justice you're looking for, Lulu Lightly. I'm still the same villain you left behind.

Only now...there's something very, very wrong with me.

A MARVEL TYPE SUPER-HERO STORY... JA HUSS STYLE

Ironman's got Pepper Potts.. Superman's got Lois Lane.. Lincoln Wade (from book 1) has Molly Masters and now, in this second book from Cathedral City, Case Reider has Lulu Lightly. JA Huss totally manages to capture the 'comic book' action hero vibe really well with this unique new story that was well narrated as Case secretly battles what's been happening inside him and changing him. It was after he got injured in the Alpha's rooftop fight with the Blue Corp and the Blue Boar that ended the previous book. Lulu and Case have history together and, from the moment they meet again, that history will be repeated as they become lovers again.. but both are holding back secrets.. and very different agendas.

Lulu Lightly is Assistant D.A. and Case, along with Lincoln and Thomas, are number one suspects for the $millions that have been hacked and stolen from Cathedral City's Banks - but shush.. because the three Super-Alphas are innocent and they're desperately looking for answers too. However, before anyone can gather the evidence and point a finger, everything goes to Hell.. because whatever's been subtly and secretively changing Cole has finally finished.. his transformation is complete.. and it's epic.. with epic drama-filled consequences.

I enjoyed this entertaining listen and JA Huss' unpredictable dual POV plot, masterful world-building and creative imagery is awesome - she's succeeded at capturing the Gotham City feel with one of its super/anti-heroes being used and ultimately falling victim to the faceless super-villain. It was fast paced - with sex, building tension, danger, suspense, romance, nanobots, super-computer hologram Assistants and deadly drama. There's the underlying continuation of the Alpha's revenge plans for Prodigy - the corrupt powerful organisation who stole, bought and bred children like them to be brainwashed, changed and used. In the next book Thomas will meet his heroine Sadie Scott - and let's hope they get revenge and dish out justice.. Super-Alpha style.

Worth a credit? If you like a fantastical super-hero type listen then you'll surely love this - sadly, I can't say I loved every minute of it - and that's not a criticism of the book in any way shape or form because it WAS good. Maybe it's just because my own personal tastes have changed a bit.. nevertheless, I still think YES, it's definitely creditworthy.

grammykk

I really enjoyed the book, I just didn’t enjoy listening to the male narrator as much as the first book because I mean who can be better than Sebastian York.

Anarchy Missing

Case and Lulu
Ok so this book had a lot more story which is what I liked. We get the full rounded picture of just how much it feels like the city against the three of them. We also see that someone is out to mess with the 3 guys. Pinning things on them they didn’t do. It is interesting that is for sure.
Case is going through something and he doesn’t feel like he can let the guys in. Lulu coming back into his life has been a good thing. It showed him that he isn’t alone and that maybe just maybe there is hope.
I have to say I like how he was pushing her away at one point because her mind was so made up he wasn’t willing to take the scraps.
Ok now the narration, I know unpopular opinion but Tad just doesn’t do it for me, 2 stars for narration for him sorry. I hated the voice he gave Lincoln. I hated the voice he gave Case at the end there. It felt over acted. I really enjoy Ava Erickson 5 stars for her narration, she did a fantastic job!

Not as good as the first.

The scene JA Huss sets in this series with Cathedral City is almost like a Gotham City knockoff. I caught a sense of that in the first book, but not enough to really take my focus away from the story. In this book, however, it seemed almost to the point of campiness. That with the storyline... it seemed like this should have been the next Batman installment after George Clooney's face-off with Arnold Schwartznegger (sp?) and Uma Thurman. As well, the resolution at the end wasn't satisfactory at all. I realize there is a third book in which I'm sure all will be revealed, but the answers in this book were lame.

NARRATION: I'm sorry, but when you have Sebastian York narrating the first installment in the series, anyone else is going to be a let down in the succeeding books. Mr. Branson's whiny voice is recognizable in all his work, and sadly, it perfectly fits this character who was a whiny little "b." These men are constantly referred to as "alphas," but at no point in this story did I get a sense of strength from this guy. He was weak and feeling sorry for himself most of the book. Got old fast.

Wow

What a crazy story. I know all of this is fantasy. But the reality is, this shits plausible. People playing god with others lives. Controlling subliminally without anyone knowing what’s going on or who’s doing it. At first I didn’t care for the nasally voice of Case or the tempo of his reading. But once it got going I understood the staccato and it made an impact of the points of what was happening to him. Great job!

Oh Sheila

Sheila is supposed to be this crazy super computer but I haven't caught a glimpse of it in either book. So far she's a glorified mechanic, a stylist, a pilot, a surgeon & a meddling mom. The only thing original is the meddling mom part... There's a drone on her house & she has no clue. For a super computer she's pretty lame.

I love Case and Lulu!!!

Yep...I loved the second in the series more than the first! I didn't think I'd be into this genre (superhero-ish)...but I am loving this series! The way Julie's mind works fascinates me...how does she come up with this stuff! It's so good - this book was packed with action, romance, drama, "hot" bodies, explosions...and so much more! I loved it!

Ava and Tad were awesome - I especially love Tad as a narrator! Wonderful job of bringing Case and Lulu to life!

Can't wait to hear Thomas' story! Thanks Julie!
