1929 Las Vegas, New Mexico. When a man is murdered at the Castaneda Hotel, Josie MacFarland is given an impossible role: the first Harvey House Detective. Armed with only her determination, Josie faces a dismissive sheriff, the cold shoulder of old friends, and the hardships of the Great Depression.

She can either return home in disgrace—or fight to prove she belongs in a world determined to shut her out.

The character is slightly annoying and had a tendency to drag out the point. Nonetheless, the narration and story were very good.

Better than expected

The setting is really interesting (and based in fact!), likable characters, solid narration. Hope there are more books to come.

Great storytelling, superb character development and an interesting time period, taking place in 1929 in New Mexico. Strong women, historical intrigue and a touch of romance.

This was such a wonderful story! The narrator’s voice brought the story to life! I’d never heard of the Harvey women. I love how Josie McFarland is introduced as a former employee being given a second chance- an in a most unusual position. I hope there’s another story coming. Very enjoyable!

Fascinating!

I rarely write reviews, but this book was excellent. The storyline and herstory (sic) mixed with fiction was fantastic. The descriptions left me with the feeling of having the southwest dust in my mouth. The narration lent authentic voice and also kept me listening. Thank the producers for not using the horrible virtual voice! Well worth the time of the listen.

Great story
