Publisher's summary

It's Diagnosis Murder meets All Creatures Great and Small...

As a house-call vet, Ginny Reese has seen her share of the weird and wacky. But nothing in her previous experience could have prepared her to find one of her clients floating in her own swimming pool.

Local artist Amanda Kelly was extremely wealthy with her share of secrets. By naming Ginny as her heir, not only did she make Ginny the number one suspect, but she painted a big bull's eye on her friend's back as well.

With her trusty German Shepherd at her side, it's up to Ginny to find the real killer and prove her innocence to the sheriff. The new sheriff. Who happens to be her ex.

Piece of cake, right?

A fun whodunnit!

I really enjoyed this breezy little mystery. It wasn’t heavy handed, yet kept my interest all the way through. I love the inclusion of animals in books like this. They are great characters in their own right and are beautifully written.

The narrator was very good. You could tell she understood the story and characters, which is always a big win!

Overall a delightful book! Can’t wait for the next one in this series!

You'll Love this Vet Practice Cozy Mystery!

"An Embarrassment of Itches" by McKenna Dean is a terrific veterinary cozy whose protagonist, Ginny Reese, opens a vet practice in a small town where her mother lives. Ginny is a super smart and strong woman, but still a vulnerable human being. (This is so important to me because I cannot tolerate characters that are too stupid to live.) There is just the right amount of romantic tension in the form of a former boyfriend who is now the sheriff. And speaking of tension, Ginny's young german shepherd dog is not yet the match of her now deceased obedience expert dog, which adds drama at the right moments. Because the writer worked as a vet tech, she is able to provide enough medical detail to make the story plausible without making the reader want to skip pages to get back to the narrative. Terrific read! I am so looking forward to the next books in this series!

Ginny the butt kicking Vet

First for an audiobook, the narrator does a lot for the book. This narrator is great.
From the opening of the book I am hooked because of the snake. M. K. Dean does a great job giving life to her characters, and making you care about those she kills in this book.
The knowledge and description of the animals in this book is great. I have true love feels for all of the animals in this book.
Ginny is so great, she is someone I would love to be friends with, she totally kicks butt!
The story is so interesting and I love the way this author writes. I am in my second listen of this book. I am so excited to read more from this author!

Murder mystery

A cute murder mystery about a vet who’s friend was found dead and she wouldn’t rest until it was solved. A well laid out story which left me wondering what was going to happen and the ending was a nice surprise that I didn’t guess.
The narration was awesome navigating between the characters and it kept my attention.
I would definitely recommend this book and will listen again. 5/5.

Excellent little mystery

I enjoyed this book a great deal more than I expected to. Well-written, funny, not too gory or scary. A delightful little cozy mystery populated with interesting characters and lots of puppies and kittens. ;-)

Mystery and Suspense to Keep You Guessing

For me chapter one seemed to drag a bit. I like a book that immediately grabs my attention and leaves me wanting more. But I will say that after the first chapter I was hooked. The first chapter gives kind of a "history" of the main characters so you are quickly up to speed. Overall I felt this was an excellent book with plenty of suspense and moments to get your heart racing. I appreciate the lack of curse words that seem so common in today's society. I am an animal lover through and through so I loved Ginny and her compassion for all of the animals in her care. This book is well written and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. The narrator also did a fabulous job of reading and making the characters come to life.

Great Cozy Mystery

I really loved this cozy mystery!
The witty, whimsical characters came to life and I loved the pets and the details of a vets life in the story. I listened to this while driving across the country for a work trip and I was actually sad when I finished it. Can’t wait for the next installment!

A great listen!

I listen to a LOT of books while driving is sitting outside enjoying my alone time. This story is entertaining and the characters are easy to picture in one’s head. The story will keep your interest but not be easy to predict, as some cozy mysteries are. I like that the relationship between Ginny and her ex isn’t wrapped up in a pretty package with a big bow. It makes me want to read the next book as soon as it’s out! Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who likes cozy mysteries that are more “mystery” than cozy
