Critic Reviews

Ambush truly kicks butt and takes names, crackling with tension from page one with a plot as sharp as broken glass. Barbara Nickless is a superb writer.” --Steve Berry, number-one internationally bestselling author

BEST OF THE SERIES!!!!

This is the third book in the Sydney Rose Parnell series and I think it might be my favorite. It could be read as a stand alone book however I would strongly suggest listening to the series in order.
This is a fast paced procedural that keeps your attention through out. The story takes Sydney to Mexico to protect a young boy she had rescued in Iraq. Back then he had seen something he shouldn't have. His mother had been murdered. Now, who ever wanted him dead then is closing in and Sydney wants to find him.
Meanwhile, back at home another ex-Marine has been murdered. Sydney's life is threatened at the airport. And more and more...
This book has a very well constructed plot. Lots of moving parts and unexpected characters. Sydney's dog Clyde as always remains a hero.

Amazing Series

This is the third book in the series, though that shouldn’t stop you from reading it. Although Ms. Nickless references some of the past events, new readers should have little trouble understanding what is happening. The only hiccup might come from the issues Sydney has brought back with her from time spent as a Marine in Iraq, but there should be enough explanation to help a new reader understand.

This is not another railroad mystery, but a fast-paced story that begins with Sydney working on a private mission in Mexico. Before mid-book, the tale has involved every part of Sydney’s life, from her current job to her time as a Marine, and spilling over into her personal life (both past and present). There is plenty of action that continually propels the plot forward, and since Sydney is telling the story, we solve the mystery with her, clue by clue.

Ms. Nickless is at the top of her game with this story. Meticulous research adds an element of realism missing from so many books today, breathing plenty of life into both the plot and the characters. Sydney tells the story with a level-headed cynicism, seasoned with the self-doubt of one who is grappling with the memories of a past that refuses to leave her be. I was extremely impressed with the author’s first two books in this series, but there is no doubt in my mind that “Ambush” is her best offering so far. Five stars.

Emily Sutton-Smith is outstanding with the delivery of the story

Not the same premise or theme, back to the railroads, please

This book strayed completely from the "railroad cop" premise. She is in Mexico looking for Malik from Iraq. Very slow start, pretty much all introspective. I just couldn't get into it at all (and i do enjoy a good war story) maybe because the other 2 books were so well done, stories engaging. This could be another series all together, all about her war experiences. Oh, also, no Clyde! At least not up to when i stopped listening.

Amazing

Amazing, stunning, a roller coaster of events that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and gasping for air. One of the best action packed stories of Sydney Parnell, railroad cop, ex marine. I enjoyed it since the first page. Clyde and Sydney are captivating, their bond make you love them more. The cover of the book is amazing, the narrator's voice is soothing and guide you flawlessly throughout the story. This a must read you can't miss.
