This is the first book I've read (listened to) by Eva Gordon. I have to say that at first, I was a little... unsure about this one. It was a little rushed in parts and slow in others. However, it got a little better for me.

This is a little different than any other "shifter" book I have in my library. It's good, complete even if there were times I thought it was a little slow or moving too fast. That could just be me. The heat factor in this one gave me pause too. I am not usually into 'erotica' books, though this particular one wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I must say everything that was spelled out in this book was well done. And I am liking Mia, now. I wanted to clobber her one a few times but that is not a bad thing.

Mia is running from the Mob. Not just any mob, the Russian mob. Talk about a bad, bad thing. the Mob sucks all kinds of monkey balls. Hidden as she is, Mia is not safe from all the bad men in the woods, aka the wolves she is unaware of. Dominick, hot, young, dominate wolf in charge of punishment. Once Dominic finds out she is in the Witness Protection Program his instincts to protect the pretty little human. There is something special about her, but he's not sure what. Dominick wants her to be his Pet. But then there is more to them all.

With the work he does at his facility, his home of all places Mia becomes suspicious of things she hears and sees now. To add insult to injury, the King of all wolves has sent him a wolf to work with.. but it's a case that puts them all on edge.

It all comes to head when an out of control werewolf takes Mia. Not just any crazy wolf, he happens to be the Prince of all wolves. Dominic must save her.... or she will become a snack for the crazy wolf. But does it end there? Or is there more?

Chellos, Mobs and Fur.. Oh, My

After testifying against the Russian Maffia in retaliation for the murder of her father, Mia is forced into hiding under the witness protection program. Mia leaves her entire life behind and moves to Dallas, but their hitman catches up with her. She is relocated once again to a small mountain town to a cottage right next to the lair of Dominic Wolfe, a billionaire werewolf known as his king's enforcer. Dominic and Mia immediately feel a powerful attractions to one another, but much stands between them. Dominic is determined to learn Mia's true identity without revealing his own, and Mia both fears and desires the dominant-submissive relationship the secretive man seems to seek. Dominic vows to protect Mia no matter what, but he never suspects that it could be his secrets rather than hers that pose the most danger...

This book is fraught with sexual tension--Dominic and Mia set fire to the sheets. The plot is lively and has lots of potential going forward. The structure of Dominic's pack is a unique take on shifters (based on my limited reading within the genre anyway), and his role as enforcer is intriguing. The narrator chosen to perform the audiobook version does a good job of altering voices to differentiate male and female characters, however, the low timbre chosen for male speech seems overly deliberate and somehow forced. Still, fans of alpha male and shifter romances will enjoy the opening of this series.

Not even FBI can hide her from Big Bad Wolf

I thought the story was ok I don't like some of the words used so for me that hindered the book appeal but I'm sure most would like it. I like the voices though the recording was weird in a lot of parts like it was redone later and copied over or something. Overall I listen to the whole story and thought it was nicely written.

This was a time filler for me

This is only book one of Mia and Dominic's story and it ends with a fairly satisfying happy for now ending. So even though it is not a standalone, I feel you could very easily read this book and then decide if this series is for you without making that full series commitment right from the word go. Overall, I enjoyed this interesting werewolf/human romance but freely admit that you had to take the good with the bad when reading it. I thought the storyline was engaging. It contains a blend of romance, danger, action, suspense, drama and humor. There are some parts that come across as a bit cheesy, while others offered an intriguing uniqueness to them. I liked Mia but did sometimes wonder where her head was at. I really felt that considering everything she might have asked a few more pertinent questions or had more doubts and fears about what lay ahead for them as a "couple" or at least specifically what she would have to prepare herself to deal with emotionally. However that is just my opinion and I do like to overanalyze things . Dominic for me was just OK. I enjoyed most of his alpha tendencies but there were a couple I found quite off putting. I'm not totally behind this whole "pet" scenario. As readers we get a few more details about what the rules are, how things must be and some of the (not so positive) possible outcomes of this arraignment (and that is why I wish Mia knew more about what she was getting herself into). I did like how protective he was of Mia and the caring and tenderness he showed her. As a couple they generated some very steamy heat. As far as the narration goes, I would rank it as fair. It was not that I thought the narrator did a terrible job because she didn't. Her voice was pleasant and easy to listen to. That being said, I think that a male narrator would have been a better choice, simply because so many of the characters were male and even though this narrator did her best, I found her portrayal of the main bad guy in this book to seem almost campy. It is hard to take the bad guy seriously if you want to laugh at him. Altogether, it was far from perfect but I did find it fun and entertaining and it left me wanting to explore what happens to this couple next (even if I fear that they have Huge issues and problems ahead).

An Interesting Read

Mia is hiding out from the mob and she just happens to be doing it right under the nose of Dominic, a very sexy alpha wolf. Dominic knows that there is something going on with sweet Mia and he’s going to find out her secrets.

Mia has spunk and a fantastic internal dialog. I was laughing while driving at many things that she said. I really liked how Dominic knew how to work Mia into trusting him. It was refreshing to see someone that wasn’t all heroic and clean as a whistle. Dominic is a high ranking wolf with duties to do. For Mia, I felt badly as her past started to unfold. It is as if you know there is more story to be told for both of them.

A funny thing about the story was the number of times that Dominic referred to the term “pet” I think it stuck out more for me hearing it than if I had read it. It just brought the title home more.

It took me a little bit to get into the groove of listening to the story. Meghan Kelly does a good job switching back and forth with the voices. She even gives the sense of the dominance of Dominic and the submissiveness of Mia. There was a bit of a cadence that seemed to be a little halting. Once I got past this and the characters interacted more, it was not as noticeable. The biggest thing in listening was that there seemed to be a change in audio volume & tone as the characters were speaking. It took me a bit to realize that it was whenever the characters where having internal thoughts/conversations.

Overall, the story was enjoyable and developed a solid base for the next set of stories. While the ending did leave you wanting to know more, it was not a cliff hanger in the truest sense.

Mia's sass cracks me up
