Publisher's summary

Nine-year-old Carol O’Brian wakes one morning to discover her world has been altered. Where she had once been abused by her tyrannical father, family life was now the warm and nurturing environment she should have had. Bewildered by the changes, she nonetheless resolves to find her place in her new life, even if it means giving up one of the few bright lights of her previously bleak existence. Now, over 20 years later, she and her sisters embark on an over-due road trip that takes them farther than they ever could have imagined.

The three sisters find themselves allied with a mysterious stranger, a doppelganger, and an ancient vessel that very well may be the oldest thing ever known - all of them entangled in an endless game of resistance against overwhelming odds. Carol might finally find the answers to questions of her upside-down life - whether she likes them or not.

And she might, along with her sisters, have a chance to actually save the universe. All the universes....

well balanced sci-fi story

As an avid sci-fi reader/listener some books focus intensely on the scientific aspect of things and describe them to great lengths. This story felt different. As I listened, I was first drawn in by the people and relationships of the story, and then the concepts. It had a great balance of what "could be" and what "was" (and everything between. I think this would be a great sci-fi novel for those that may not typically read sci-fi.
