Acerca de esta escucha
When Elvis Presley decided he wanted to buy a horse in 1966, he didn't want just any horse.
"He wanted a Golden Palomino," Priscilla Presley remembers. "He would get up at 3:00 in the morning, go to certain farms and ranches and say, 'Do you have a Golden Palomino for sale?' People would say, 'That was Elvis Presley!'"
Elvis's legendary love of horses drove him to find the golden palomino that would become his beloved companion, Rising Sun, and to fill Graceland's stables and Circle G Ranch with horses for family and friends to ride. In the first-ever audiobook dedicated to Elvis's equestrian side, horse lovers Kimberly Gatto and Victoria Racimo share rare stories and interviews that shed light on the beautiful, quiet life the King lived when he was with his horses.

Gary Tillery presents a coherent view of Elvis' thoughts through such anecdotes and other recorded facts. We learn, for instance, that Elvis read thousands of books on religion; that his crisis over making mindless movies like Girl Happy led him to writers such as Gurdjieff, Krishnamurti, and Helena Blavatsky; and that, while driving in Arizona, an epiphany inspired him to learn Hindu practice. Elvis came to believe that the Christ shines in everyone and that God wanted him to use his light to uplift people.

While scores of books have been written about Elvis Presley, this is the first meticulously researched biography of Tom Parker written by someone who knew him personally. And for anyone truly interested in the performer many consider the greatest and most influential of the 20th century, it is impossible to understand how Elvis came to be such a phenomenon without examining the life and mind of Parker, the man who virtually controlled Elvis' every move.

Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley is the first biography to go past that myth and present an Elvis beyond the legend. Based on hundreds of interviews and nearly a decade of research, it traces the evolution not just of the man but of the music and of the culture he left utterly transformed, creating a completely fresh portrait of Elvis and his world. This volume tracks the first 24 years of Elvis' life, covering his childhood, the stunning first recordings at Sun Records, and the early RCA hits.

From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed. But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt.

Beginning with Presley's army service in Germany in 1958 and ending with his death in Memphis in 1977, Careless Love chronicles the unraveling of the dream that once shone so brightly, homing in on the complex playing-out of Elvis' relationship with his Machiavellian manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Have an Elvis & Horse Interest?
I appreciate the intention of this book, to focus on the equine interest of Elvis Presley. I had hoped for more in depth information or stories about the horses Elvis rode, owned and admired. The book covers a little of this but not enough in my opinion. The authors used information from other books, web sites or interviews. I think the authors conducted their own interviews from equine Elvis references. I did learn more about the early days with June (an Elvis girlfriend) and their riding together. The narrator was pleasant and I like that she didn’t have a fake, weird “Elvis voice”. I didn’t care for stating every footnote in each chapter in this audiobook it distracted from the story. Especially since the narrator reads all the footnotes the end. This book is a quick listen or read.
