From USA Today best-selling author Audrey Blake comes a story of love, hope, and perseverance, following one woman's fight against an invisible enemy.

One woman physician. A group of talented midwives. A deadly disease spreading.

1849. Dr. Nora Gibson is the only female surgeon in London. In all of England, even. After earning her medical degree and overcoming the prejudice of those who wished to see her fail, she's finally earned her place at the Great Queen Street Hospital alongside her newlywed husband and her eccentric but ailing adoptive father, the great Dr. Horace Croft.

But peace is hard to come by as a physician, and for one like Nora, it's almost impossible. When Nora takes up the fight to bring midwives into the medical field, her already fragile reputation comes under fire by colleagues and London society itself. And if the possibility of losing her rights to practice medicine wasn't enough, a dangerous enemy has made itself known: the deadliest cholera epidemic in over a century. It's a swift disease that wreaks havoc and tragedy across the city, especially amongst the working classes, and Nora will do anything she can to help. Soon, she finds herself on the frontlines of the disease, and as those around her begin to fall, she'll have to find the strength to stand alone and maintain her greatest oath: to save lives. Whether she'll make it through, though, is up to fate.

I am really enjoying this series. I am fascinated by early medicine, and the characters are engaging. Nora, as well as the others are well faceted and the humor is well done too.

Enjoying this series.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book is that it’s the last of the series and I’m saying goodbye to these wonderful characters! Historical fiction at its best, I wish there was a 4th to look forward to.
Superb research, I learned so much amidst this wonderful story.
And kudos to the narrator who didn’t disappoint while sharing all 3 of these books with us.

Wonderful!

I really liked the perspective on women in medicine, but also specifically regarding women in childbirth and disregard by male doctors which continues to some degree till today. The book is definitely worth reading however I listened to it as an audiobook and I really did care for the narrator. I’ve read or listened to hundreds of of books and I have to say it was very difficult to continue with this one because the narrator basically sounded like she was reading the book with minimal emphasis in high climax areas. At many points, she slurred her words as if she was tired. I changed the tempo of the reading to attempt to understand her better, but it was difficult. The book is definitely worth reading or listening to, but just heads up on the narrator.

Great perspective on women’s struggles in medicine.

This compassionate story of a woman doctor fighting against male chauvinism, the social norms, and politics in the early 1800’s. Her feelings, her grit, and her relationships with the people around her (any romantic relationships were clean and low spice) were portrayed with sensitivity, and hope is the final outcome. I listened with rapt attention to the excellent narrator as she helped me live along with the characters in this story, and came away with a feeling of satisfaction and appreciation for those who have gone before, as well as for hope in the human race! I received an ARC copy and this is my review.

Compassionate

I loved everything about this book. I didn't know it was the third book in a series u til I finished it because it's a wonderful story on its own. The historical details about medical treatments, especially how to treat cholera, were detailed without being overly grisly, and I learned so much. I was rooting for the happiness and success of every character, who each showed real human emotions amid the conflicts and celebrations we all experience. This writer and narrator are both outstanding.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
